Its Autumn here in New Zealand, the time of harvest.
We have a 3 year old Black Boy peach tree that's having its first real crop. That's an odd name for a peach tree? Yes it was named centuries ago, in another time and the name would not pass today's PC world. So lets call it BBP. Here is some more info about the species. https://www.foodlovers.co.nz/features/the-boys-are-back-in-town.html If you are a Foodie, then these peaches should be on your bucket list of food to try.
One odd thing about BBP is that you don't pick the fruit from the tree. You let them fall to the ground and go collect them. A bit of long grass under the tree and they don't get bruised, plus it get's you in form for the Easter Egg hunts in a few weeks time.
We got a few peaches under the tree last weekend, so took a bucket with me to have a look yesterday. Should have taken two buckets. Went back with the second bucket, picked up the peaches and gave the tree a little shake. It rained peaches. Some more shaking and the last 8 peaches stubbornly held on. They got picked.
We decided to cook and bottle them last night. Here is the first pot being cooked. "Hey, Honey, isn't that pot a little full?" "No, it will cook down" was the reply.
A while later I hear a chorus of profanity and a few choice words coming from the Kitchen. I rushed in and it looked like there had been a murder.
Overall it was a successful night, 8 kg of peaches bottled, stove top, oven and draws cleaned and the floor was washed.
Looking forward to eating them during the cold of winter.
