The manufacturers who want to keep their service departments busy.. sorry got my cynical hat on.;)
You're right, but, it's an insult to my intelligence if I can't change a light bulb.

Just replaying the viewing I did on Monday in my mind and something I noticed and didn't immediately attach any importance to.

The car had the service book stamped up, but, the first service appeared to have not been done until 30k. It's been done regularly since. Now, in my book, that first service is probably the most important, but, I'm not familiar with BMW servicing. Is it worth steering clear of this for that reason?

Shame because everything else looked so good.

Also, it had just one key. How much to get a second from BMW?

You could probably check with bmw if it had any service history before what is stamped.
A replacement key is around £150 i believe i have been quoted around this as i too have just the one...

You can get a spare key [without remote] for GBP50, maybe less if your lucky.

Would they be helpful if your enquiring about a car you don't own?
The cost of a key is around what I'd expect. I presume that includes any programming that needs to be done.

Thanks

Personally I wouldn't sweat the stamping at 30k if it's been serviced regularly since then. But that's just me!! JIM

Called and had another look on my way back from Norfolk today - The service history was in fact complete - I'd only looked at the first entry properly. The initial service had been logged over the page from the first page. It was just filled out of sequence and all stamps were there.

A few scratches and chips appeared when I viewed the car in the sun but nothing much to panic over in a 90k car. The drivers door was a little clunky - slightly out of adjustment or needing some attention. It did stand a millimetre or so proud. No signs of any accident damage though. Is there adjustment in the door catches?

The key isn't anything to worry about. About oar for getting a new key.

Just the techno-geek in me now. How to get a decent DAB and handsfree installation and upgrade to a multifunction steering wheel. Any advice on what could be done and how gratefully received. Is changing the head unit going to detract from the car - none of them look like they blend in.

Nothing wrong with a Merc. I have had more MB's than BM's.
It's not the cars - it's the dealers. Have never once had a good response from any of their sales people. Maybe I just don't look like a merc owner.
