Is there an alternative for the HUGE interior mirror?

The mirror is such a pain, and blocks so much view. I did try to get hold of someone online that makes a gadget to lift it i believe but he never got back to me.

Anyone else come up with a solution?

2004 R52 mini convertible, there are more than one type fitted. One has totally the wrong mount as it fits to the roof section not the screen .

Correct one is Part no 51169134380 9134380

to be honest i didn't notice how large it was until it fell off and i drove around for a couple of weeks with it just rolling about on the passenger seat, then i got around to refitting it and went for a drive - OMG stupid mirror is blocking half my view now, but i hadn't actually noticed it until i got used to it not there.

I have one from a Mini. I like the shape but it's actually slightly bigger.

I read long ago about someone in the US using a different bracket from a GM car or something that was a direct fit but made the mirror sit higher up near the top so freeing up space.

yes there is some sort of bracket you can get to raise the mirror, only some cars can have the actual mount swapped as some if not most have the immobilizer (or is it alarm) gubbins inside of the mount but it will work if you use the bracket, cant remember how this worked, think it just popped onto the mount ball and gave you extra movement allowing the mirror to be raised upwards. there was also a thread on some other BMW forum, cant remember which but it showed a direct replacement for the large OEM mirrors from another BMW.

lowering the seat is not an option, it's already on the floor as I am 6' 2"

slight left turns are possibly dangerous as I have to bob down to look under it.
