Again to echo what others have said. What a great write up. For a novice tinkerer like me it’s even something I’d feel confident in doing myself. I was reading another thread last night by @mrscalex on door card refurbs I’m definitely going to have a go at this shortly. So look out for some advice when needed.

Many thanks Carl

Hi Guys, so I have just replaced my instrument cluster with a secondhand one from eBay with similar mileage. The old one speedo, Rev counter not working and fuel gauge on empty. Now the new one I have installed, fuel gauge goes to full and temperature goes straight to red. EML light has come on and esp light too. Is there a way to code this clock or use parts from the old cluster that wasn’t working?

That was / is a great write up...
Thanks so much as I know The 'Instrument Cluster' will almost certainly be an issue at some point - even if it's an annoying fly or Boris The Spider...

I sourced mine form Andy @spurs fan in a coupe for a very reasonable cost.

You can't be "clocking it" already?

I have a black and a beige dash available if you need one. I'm in Woking, Surrey

Great write up!
Could you tell me if bulbs illuminate the mileage screen, as mine a terribly dim?
Cheers

There are bulbs which illuminate the "clocks" (3W IIRC) and then all the smaller ones which light the warning symbols. These tiny bulbs are also held in plastic holders.

You can strip the binnacle down to its basic parts but you will have to buy a complete one to strip down for parts.

Perhaps not the correct thread but anyone know if by removing the cluster we can trim the speedometer gauge ? Thanks. Mine is showing >15 km/h faster than the secret menu, OBD or GPS.

It sounds like a firmware problem. Mine over-read by a significant amount when my coding plug failed and EEP-1 was displayed in the mileage field. There's no adjustments accessible by simply removing the cluster. Here is a thread which may help

That's great! I just bought a second hand instrument cluster because I wanted to replace the front glass. Then, I thought perhaps I had made a mistake and the cluster could not be split like that… Apparently so.

Having said that, could I just swap the cluster and install the coding plug from my old one?

You can remove the glass, that's exactly why I did mine.
