Just in case you were thinking about a "cheeky" run out, you may want to read this.

Absolute nonsense mate, 'essential' is an opinion and people are insured 24/7/365. Scandalous  Just one of the many behind the scenes things that are and will be coming round the corner to get money back into the coffers.

"May".

Look, theoretically I suppose the article has a point. But I dont think any Insurer would want to make the news for trying that. It does depend on the circumstances. *If* you were out on a known local hooligans route, and wrapped your car around a police car after tyre marks showed you were trying to take a 90° bend at 100mph, you might have a problem. For anything else I think Andy is right, 'essential' is open to some interpretation, if you think you have a valid reason before setting off . . .

It could be suggested, that travelling to the post office to say, post your HMRC cheque, could be deemed very essential in current times ....

Total bull!

It was on page 2 of the The People so I thought it would be true;)

Tony.

The new rules say that you are allowed to drive somewhere for exercise, I was out in the countryside today and every beauty spot and walking area car park was very busy.

We went out for a drive today :)
Lots of people about and Children in play parks too :)
non essential drive for some but it was essential to us we went to buy something but it wasn’t in stock :)

If travel is limited should we get a rebate on our Insurance premiums?

I'd like to see that one stand up in court 🤔 you may find yourself in breach of Corvid rules but unless your insurance company has notified you your cover now has different conditions to when you took the policy out they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

You'd think ....

You are still paying for theft cover - that hasn't changed. But if you are doing significantly less mileage, the risk of accident has reduced.

Earlier in the year, some Insurers went on record saying they would 'consider' refunds for significantly lower mileages. If you were already on a low mileage policy it might not be worth the hassle. Some Insurers would see it as a policy change and charge an Administration fee, which might offset any savings.

It does no harm to ask - a single phone call ....

My Insurance is 6,000 miles and circa £200. I'd guess an Admin charge would be at least £25, so I don't think I'll bother. But it would interesting if some people did succeed .... ?

We've had a letter from direct line asking for our mileage and if we've done less than our insured mileage at renewal, they will refund a small amount. This year it was only £10 but it's better than nothing.

Spoke to my insurance broker, she said this article is utter rubbish. Your insurance cover is valid regardless of whatever lockdown/curcuit breaker/whatever rules are in place.

Yes Paul. I did from Churchill for the daily during the last lockdown, only a tenner but my tenner;)
