I'll own up to doing things the wrong way, sitting in a restaurant for a family celebration in London in December 2016 - I bought a car unseen off eBay! Utter madness I know!
The idea was that the 115K mile red Z3 2.2i would become a project car for my 2 sons, and they might do some tours with us in a "cooler" car than their everyday vehicles. Well, that's never happened...yet.
I knocked the seller down by £200 to £1.8K but have spent quite a bit more since:
New ignition coils & plugs;
Front pads & wear indicator;
Rear brake rebuild with new parts, incl. handbrake cables;
New coil springs & sundry suspension bushes etc;
Driver's door handle carrier & lock mechanism;
OSR ABS sensor;
Replacement (nice used) front lower wings, sills & rear wings plus complete re-spray;
Replacement 5-spoke "proper" Z3 alloys - refurbished, new wheel bolts;
New Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres all round;
Leather seats to replace fabric;
Radio/hands free.
The guys who do the maintenance for me, (sadly I have neither time or ability), reckon I have a very solid car thankfully.
Overall the car owes me around £7K now, but I know what has been done to the car and trust it. I could have bought a dearer car with less miles, and still needed to do much of the above.
On my wish list are:
Soft top refurb;
Steering wheel refurb;
Matching leather door cards;
Refurbished headlights;
Centre console refurb;
Electric window refurb, maybe replacement glass too;
NS door speaker replacement;
Free-running seatbelts - probably just needs silicone spray;
Etc.!
All in good time hopefully!
As my first roadster/cabriolet it's been great fun so far!
Best regards to all on the Forum for a Happy New Year. May our Zeds increase in value!
