When I bought my recent 2001 2.2 sport, the illuminated gear knob cap looked as if it had bubbles under it, taking off the plastic cap it appears that in a previous life someone had removed the cap and damaged the foil. Now not only does it look like it has bubbles but some of the foil is missing so light shines through in places that it shouldn't.

Does anyone know where, or if, there is a source for just the plastic cap? If I can't get one I guess I can carefully remove the damaged foil and matt black paint the underside in the areas that I want to mask, but would prefer to get a new cap if it is available.
 
I'm not aware of replacement caps for the illuminated gear knobs, I think you are either stuck with a repair to your old one or keep an eye out for a second hand/new one.
 
Thanks, I thought that would be the case, the obvious course would be to do the repair and look for a new one as plan B if a repair fails.
 
I have seen these replacement tops for these. They keep appearing on my Instagram. None on ebay?
 
Thanks for the reply, I have looked on ebay before but they only seem to have the 6-speed variant not the 5-speed that I need, but I'll have another look.
