Ian you don't need a slide hammer just take your shoes off and find a shiney floor whilst holding any one of yours take a run etc....I'd hammer in the morning.
Searching the garage for something and I realised I had quite a few more Manchester spanners in my big tool toolbox than might be necessary. Ok there's a leather and wooden mallet in there for good measure. How many do you need to get through this life? Am I missing any essential ones?
Slide hammer for one!

When I was going through college working road construction, I used to watch the other experienced men on the crew hammering in the long iron stakes holding the concrete forms for the curbs. One man would hold the spike and another would strike it with a mighty blow with a sledge hammer. They never missed. I wanted a try with the hammer but no one wanted to hold the iron stake. No need to figure out why..............FrankieMainly for hitting something hard in confined space, due to heavy head and short shaft. When I first bought tools as an apprenticed agricultural engineer I was told buy a big hammer first. Reason being, you can hit gently with a large hammer but you can't hit hard with a small one.

A very skilled job if you're not going to run of work mates quickly. When I was going through college working road construction, I used to watch the other experienced men on the crew hammering in the long iron stakes holding the concrete forms for the curbs.
