Who to blame? Management/unions/clueless designers/whatever. I miss the British motor industry, used to make some fine cars, and then..........
All of the above I think, failed to see amongst others the Japanese coming. Reactive and failed :(
 
British cars of the 70s were often cr*p, but in terms of survival rate, was the foreign competition really any better? The Japanese had learned how to make cars that mechanically would run till the end of time, but boy did they rust. I reckon the survival rate of Datsun Cherrys and Sunnys would be even lower than dogs like the Morris Ital. What about those beautifully built German cars? Have a look on 'How Many Left' to see how few Audi 80s and 90s are still around.
