I realize the age of thread, but I am traveling to Munich next week and have time on Monday. Looks like the BMW Welt is open, but museum is closed. Any advice on visit?
 
the Welt is more marketing oriented and you will be bored.
While in Munich visit the Motorworld, it is the petrolheads megastore.
not a museum, but you have to see it

However- why not a flexible tonneau cover that could morph into a roof when required?
