:) The older I get, the more like Victor Meldrew I appear to be!!!!

I’m currently working on the Zed to install heated seats, and replace one of the seat motors that doesn’t work.
Today I was in the garage, absolutely swearing at the former owner, his mechanic, or whoever has had their hands on my car in the past.

Because the drivers seatbelt was not retracting very well, and as the interior is in bits anyway, I stripped down all the rear storage boxes to inspect it .....what a f.......... mess!
over 10 Screws missing, three plastic parts split or pieces broken off and most caps missing (Found a lot of them underneath the storage box)
I just can’t understand the mentality of leaving it like this. Someone must have known ......could have been whoever installed the new soft top

I manage to repair all the damaged plastic parts with Gorilla glue. ( good stuff) and Found enough M4 screws and washers to cover the missing parts.
The seat belt was actually ok but was being jammed by a piece of broken off polystyrene.

Next thing ,
I was going to asked if anyone recognised these parts But the two on the left, which I found on the transmission tunnel, I have now identified where they go. The spring on the right was under the drivers seat but have no idea what it’s for or where is goes. Anyone know?

On the up side, the two old pound coins I found under the seats were taken by the bank :):):)

It is frustrating sorting someone else's mess to your own satisfaction but at least you're 2 quid better off Vic.;)

Did a bit more investigating today......

The result was that I found clips 2 ok, 3 broken, an M8 bolt..3 small caps ......and another 1p !!!!

Total now is £2.38.. which equates to about 1.5p per hour !!!!

Just a couple of tips to impart.
Keeps all fixings removed grouped in separate containers ( learnt this after stripping down my 1300 Pan European.:banghead:)
I have tied string to the wires with labels for identification and ease of assembly. Feed all the strings through the holes in the centre console so you can pull them through once it’s back in position.
As is cold at the moment I try to do as much as I can with the roof up and only fold it when I have to.
Check all the wiring under the carpet to ensure nothing is being strained. The wires going up to the handbrake were fairly tight so slighty rerouted them.

I did have a few puzzling moments trying to work out the order of removing parts but it’s not actually as difficult as it would first appear.

I think I am now about as far as I need to go in dismantling stuff, so just need to get a few panel nuts and screws and then can start putting it all back together.

These pictures make me shudder. Done this too many times on mine now. Can’t deal with doing it again, ever!

I use a little fan heater to stay warm, frozen fingers no good on these jobs.

Oh and I have a small jar of little fittings left over from doing these jobs, never seem to get as many back in as when I take them out. Might explain the odd rattle I have...

All (good) mechanics have a drawer full of "Whee" parts !
