Speed limits to be reduced from 30 mph down to 20 mph in Wales, with Scotland to follow suit in 2025!

Tony.

Sounds about right:rolleyes:

Unfortunately, the problem with speed limits is that those who drive 'inconsiderately' with a tendency to ignore even 30mph speed limits will just continue as normal, so the claimed reduction in accidents and cost saving to NHS etc will not be realised.
Meanwhile, the majority who drive carefully and keep to speed limits (or below them when appropriate), will just be bored stupid and unnecessarily slowed down.

Just have to ask the question what are they thinking of ? Or are they preparing for when we have automated vehicles ?

' Encouraging people to not use their cars ' do it often enough and they wont buy one, = reduced revenues for government.
However while they have one they will still use it, slower speed = using more fuel, as less efficient, so higher polution, in residential areas.
As jounreys will now take 50% longer, they'll use even more fuel again.

It will discourage people going into town / city centres - when they want the opposite.

The biggest renveue earner for government and they wage more war against owners

Ridiculous as this may be, it is a problem everywhere. On my recent Italian trip, I noticed a great increase in 30 KPH areas. Fortunately the Italians don't seem too hot on enforcement, unlike the French who now have speed cameras everywhere. I set off at least 2, now waiting to see the result, at least the last speeding ticket from France was only peanuts.

We were in the borders last month and already lots of 20mph limits in villages and towns.

So thats 20mph limits in urban areas, and 50mph on A roads -
Think I'll invest in a business making and selling red flags, as I'm sure thats the next logical step, and an agency who specialise in workers who enjoy a good stroll

I'm in Wales. To be honest I don't think it'll make that much difference to me. Traffic lights, road humps, chicanes etc mean I'm not often near 30mph anyway. Limit of 20mph will likely make the journey feel mega slow but, in fact, will probably just add 30 seconds to the time it takes me to drive across town.
