I thought it could have been a Leicester based member following @Davyhoogy guide on how to split headlamps a bit too enthusiastically (and adding a nice post to the DIY Frustrations thread!)Thats less than a 10 minute drive from where I live!
Jokes aside that is some abnormal flames for residential area, hope all is ok and the cause wasn’t something sinister.
lucky it was not during the day as it is a busy road into Leicester. I would think a gas explosion

Just heard that the shop was a "Polish" shop. Not that long ago a building exploded in Boston when an illegal Polish booze operation blew up. Coincidence?

Our eldest lives less than 200 yards away just off the Hinckley road.Thats less than a 10 minute drive from where I live!
A few minutes panic when we heard about it, then I couldn't get hold of him for a few minutes afterwards.

It's an area with lots of students. i fear those killed might be from one of the Local universities
Almost certainly from witness reports. Suspect it was an explosion in the top floor that took the roof out causing the building to collapse. An explosion on the ground floor or first would likely exploded outwards and might have caused the next floor to come down but, the whole lot like that.
From what I saw on the early evening news it was the ground floor which blew out into the street, and that allowed the upper floor(s) to collapse down onto itself similar to how the Twin Towers collapsed own on themselves. It looked like local CCTV footage.
