HP Printers - had enough!!

As every Hp has 2 sizes of ink cartridges. Here Hp 62 has black and color cartridges while Hp 62xl has black and color of high capacity cartridge. 62xl produces higher quality prints than Hp 62. It won't even support the cartridges so you can't use 62 ink instead of 62xl.

For years I used to refill my own printer cartridges my self from bottles of printer ink bought on the internet. The kit supplied the ink and several needles that were used to inject the ink into fill holes in the cartridge. The printer head went bad and I then bought an HP. I could have refilled these cartridges myself but elected to buy cheaper replacement ones from e-bay. It is against the law for printer manufactures to program their printers to refuse other cartridges so their printers must accept them. When I tried to replace the original ink cartridges with off-brand ones in my HP printer it did everything you could think of not to except them. I went on you-tube to find a solution. You really have to do a song and dance with the printer to get it to finally accept the different cartridges. I followed the tricky procedures and it finally accepted them. Works fine now...............Frankie

Pete, I've just come back to HP from a Canon and signed up for instant ink. 50 pages a month for £1.99, I think is good value especially when you take into account your getting proper HP cartridges. The Canon was ok, they make great cameras but the printer was not a patch on this HP

I never came back to this thread for some reason but I went down the exact same route as Mint. I bought a HP Envy 3150 and although I was a bit sceptical about instant ink, I went for it. With introductory offer I ended up not paying anything for months and months, getting free cartridges. I then settled for the same monthly deal of £1.99. Brilliant deal, the cartridges last longer than ones you buy in shops, they get ordered automatically post free, highly recommend this way of operating a printer. Definitely works for me.

I always buy Epson printers, as I have never had a problem with them using compatible ink cartridges.

Update - It was a HP Envy 5030 I bought - the 3150 was my old one.

Forgot to add that aswell as only using 9 of this months 50 pages + I've got 74 rollover pages. So I've got loads in hand and won't need to go to next level of monthly subscription.

I even bought the printer from Tesco using our points which helped to reduce the cost.
