A quick guide on how to remove the roof lining from later z3 facelift models

I started by unscrewing the Phillips screws that hold the roof down at the front edge.

I took the torx bolts (3) out of this panel the reveal two more Phillips, don’t think you have to though.

Then having peeled back the roof driver out the outer rivets (4) and unscrewed the inner two screws.

The liner should now be loose enough to fold back, then it is clipped to the roof support cross beam (one had a rivet on the inner edge) .

At various points it is riveted on both drivers and passengers side to the roof frame folding mechanism, some roof tensioning springs (one on the car) needed removing (Phillips) too.

Then the rear is held on by some awkward rivets above the roll hoops. The back section will then peel off.

On each side there is also a riveted bracket

I’m glad I dont have a facelift version.....
If I did and had to remove it ......I would book you and the family into Bognor Butlins for a weekend and get you to do it =))

I bought an inner roof liner from Spurs to be fitted to my roof when I had a new roof fitted. Wasn't that simple, I was told by the fitter in Croydon that it couldn't be fitted and that If I wanted it fitted I should have bought the liner and the front roof rail that fits to the windscreen si if you want to fit a liner then buy this from Spurs at the same time.

Has anyone retro fitted one into a pre-facelift?
And how easy/difficult is it to make a good finish?
I have a good lining in my donor and would like to fit it into my prefacelift, as it seems to make the cabin noticeably quieter. I’m reasonably confident it can mechanically be done (unless you know otherwise!), but what might it look like?

I have read that you cannot retrofit an earlier car with a later car's roof liner. I would love to hear differently.
