I should probably add that this is short term parking rather than long term storage e.g. popping to the shops or out on a zed run (those were the days)
Same applies for me. Neutral, handbrake check, clutch, start.

My Z is an auto but it's predeccessor, the GT6 was always parked in gear with the handbrake on, the handbrake was a bit of a joke. It's always been instinctive in a manual to dip the clutch when starting.

I park in gear but never handbrake on as the car can sit a while.
I put back into netural dip clutch and start, force if habit i think.

When parking at home in the car port, handbrake off and in neutral. Dip the clutch when starting. When out on a run handbrake on and in gear as the handbrake is not to be trusted (eh @Bozzy;)), dip the clutch to start.
The daily is an auto and you have to press the foot brake before it will do its system check before starting.

There's quite a few cars around these days where you have to push the clutch down for the starter to work. I guess they realise there're some seriously stupid people out there.

Anyone else remember the days of old British bikes where you'd have to put it in gear, hold the clutch in, and kick it over to free the clutch after it had been sitting overnight? And if you didn't, you'd find out why when you tried to put it in gear with the engine running. "crunch" isn't really the right word, but it'll do.

i had to pick my mate up one night from football match and he let me use his car to pick him up, anyway he had already started his car and let me drive it to my house ready for when i was going to pick him up later.

He also had just bought a new audi TT and failed to start that after parking it outside my housea week previous, ( different story)..

Anyway went to get in his other car, and it would not start, tried phoning him, and he was on the bus with all his footbally friends and couldnt hear me.. ended up i had to pick him up in my wifes car, he came over next day, started straight away...

guess what it was... yep... you guessed it had to press the clutch to start first time i have ever experienced that....

i felt a right nana.....:whistle::whistle:

as for his TT i think his key needed charging he brought his spare key down and that started... was bit of a coincidence though i couldnt get his car to start a week later...

My option's not on there. Left in neutral and checked again before I start it without pressing the clutch

That's the "Parked out of gear, started with the clutch engaged" option...

On a slightly different thing, I had an Avenger when we were building our house and John's (the builder) dad needed to borrow my car to fetch something. Anyway I had put a gear knob off of a Samba on it which had reverse back and right marked on it, however, the Avenger's original one was forward and left. Henry parked nose up to a wall at the merchants and was very embarrassed when someone showed him the error of his ways. He was not a happy bunny when he got back. Me and John thought it was hilarious.=))=))

I don’t take any chances;

park car with handbrake on.

raise car on jack stands

release handbrake

remove ignition coils

Brim tank

put Milton in washer bottle

battery charger switched on

car cleaned and air dried with car dryer

interior cleaned and dehumidifier switched on

Start up:

reverse of above

full fluids change

crank car with coils unplugged

Drain fuel and refill with fresh fluid.

Please give me a least 2 weeks notice for any outing

Now we both run autos there's no fun anymore ...............

Who needs a handbrake when there's another car parked right behind you to stop you rolling backwards down the hill =)).

It was a good job you were there Steve;)

No, this is not an instructional thread but I am asking the zroadster.org massive to help me understand the way YOU do things.

I have always put the car into gear when parked up (in case the handbrake fails) and I have always dipped the clutch to start the car to take strain off the starter motor (and to prevent the car from lurching of course!)

Some others don't do either - car is not left in gear and the car is started with the clutch engaged.

I'm not saying either approach is right (although I do have an opinion!), but what does the Zorg massive do?
My wife gets out and pushes while I pop the clutch..................Frankie

My grandaughter passed her test a couple of years ago. Out with her in her mother CooperS she parked and pulled the handbrake up ,so you heard ever notch, never used the button. I comment on it and got told its how she was taught to make sure she pulled it up.!!!!!!!
