We have a squatter under the shed...
It’s either a brown rat or very big ‘country mouse’
Either way it’s not welcome and must go. I’ve already had one car damaged by vermin eating wiring before.

All suggestions welcome but preferably legal. I do not own a WMD or flamethrower so that rules those options out I’m afraid...

Borrow a Jack Russell for half an hour

.22 Air rifle would be my choice or a humane trap .

Tony.

Take away any food source. We had the same it was due to bird feeders and the food. Removed all that. They went on their own accord.

These with a bit of chocolate in the centre bowl.....and splat the rat!

Big one for rats, small one for mice!!!
Need these as we have a cat that catches them in the wild and releases them indoors!!! =))

We had the same a few years ago, under our shed. It was because I'd left a large sack of fishing groundbait in there. They chewed themselves a hole in the shed floor.
We called the council, they came out and set poison for the, looked like blue coloured grain.
It worked, but they died a horrid death.
One day I could hear a noise like a cat screaming/crying, I looked out of the window to see one of them just sitting there writhing in agony, not pleasant. I shot it with the air rifle to put it out of it's misery.

So I can't recommend poison I'm afraid.

Not sure how I'd deal with them again, maybe air rifle, maybe an instant death trap of some sort.

If it’s a rat it is a small one. Unwelcome irrespective of what it is. Rat poison is horrible but effective. A good trap though is the quickest way of finishing them off. Or as mentioned a Jack Russel for a while.
Had mice get in one of the sheds. They all but demolished one of my toe-cap boots leaving just the metal.
Three mice chewed their way in to a bag of fish blood & bone. They didn’t get out. Desiccated mice anyone?

I have a live trap set at all times so when one moves in I catch it and it gets shot,

Seems like a trap is the best idea. Any recommend ones?

Bird seed must have attracted them.

I’ll have to look at .22 idea....

I kid you not, you will catch it with one of these and a trap humane one or not but you will get it.

They love them

One word of warning Dino if you go for trap, make sure it's fastened down. I didn't and the bloody trap disappeared never to be seen again.

Saw it a couple of times when the medics lobbed poisoned meat over the walls of our compound in the Sahara to get rid of the wild dogs that the locals let run riot. Not a pretty sight .... :yuck:

Don't leave a back breaker exposed as there is a risk you may get some type of bird in it, it may take a while to work as the trap will smell of human scent, to help speed things up, wear some gloves and rub soil all over the trap before baiting.
I much prefer to head shoot them :)

Same wi mole traps Sean, they can smell human on them. I leave mine out in the weather and use gloves to set them.

Tony.

You should make sure that you use a humane trap, otherwise you will have to forgo the pleasure of beating it to a pulp. A lump hammer usually does the trick.
Remember Monty Python, the Mouse Organ.=))

Same wi mole traps

You reckon that this is an old wife's tale Tony?

Something people in Germany do to get rid of moles is to bury empty bottles (e.g. beer bottles) so that only the neck of the bottle sticks out of the ground. The wind blowing over the opening will create a sound the moles apparently do not like.

Could possibly work Mike, I've heard the same thing said about putting those plastic windmill things kids have on the beach into the mole runs, it's said they don't like the vibrations.

Tony.

ps. Jasper Carott had the best idea. . . . . . . . .

That was great, thanks for posting HT. Haven't seen Jasper for years, is he still around?
