In the case of a battery, Boots brand specifically. I don't recall ever seeing one, let alone fitting one.

Anyway, back in the early 80s a friend who was an Ameteur Radio enthusiast made me a portable continuity tester for testing car wiring and yes I know there are much better things available these days, but, I still use it even today.
When I took it out of my toolbox today it wouldn't work and it crossed my mind that I have never
replaced the 9v battery inside it.

A new battery later and it's back to normal helping me to test wires on problem.

Aye. You were lucky. We couldn't afford batteries. I 'ad t get out of bed at midnight and go outside t stick me tongue on't tram cable and run 'ome before me hair stopped burnin so me dad could see his way out to work as a night time repairer of church roofs.

Tell kids that nowadays and they'll never believe you.

Impressive.

Tell me that chip is a 555 timer, we used to have endless fun building circuits with those. Now I'm miffed I cant read the resistor colour codes . . .

Those electrolytic caps do eventually dry out. Probably wont matter for your application, but its (partially) why old speakers loose their crispness of tone. And they're fun when they pop ! Lots of confetti . . . That circuit is probably only 5v, you wont have a problem . . .

I think you've got your money's worth out of that battery;)

Really? I was hoping I might be able to rejuvenate it somehow Dave. ;)=))=))
My Dad was a Yorkshireman you know.

Tony.
