Not been on here long but thought I'd set up a little thread with the Zed.
So I looked for a while, and managed to chose one that was a good mix of style, looks, condition and miles. Went high miles, 125k, but with 15 service stamps and alot of receipts so not too fussy.
Condition was 7/10.
Fella had a winch for the hard top and a frame attached that he built himself to come free with the car.
There's a rather large list of things I want to do before i consider it great, but in the first 4 weeks it's come along huge leaps and bounds!!
Anyways I'll put some pics up hopefully you like

I did that with my original Simota thread, mine was Kraken Rum though. Still I did win weirdest thread which made me smile.

Right I'll give this a go.
Went to pick the girl up from Rochdale, so a nice rainy 150mile drive home to check how it goes and make sure the hard top doesn't leak
All went well!
The first pictures the day after when it was dry....

IMO looks fantastic with the hardtop, wasn't really keen on the soft top. So it's been hard top or nothing so far

First purchase was to change the front light.
Dull dark and dated were the originals.
So I went with a chrome pair with halo rings.
These were just off ebay so was a tad skeptical but there was plenty sold so risked it

Looks great @Davyhoogy I'm a big fan of the way the hard top looks on the Zed. I've only taken mine off a couple of weeks ago. As long as you have somewhere to store it, it's like having two different cars.

Can't beat top down driving in nice dry weather

The fella supplied me with a winch so I'm not sure whether to use that and mount it on the roof and hoist the roof up off the car or to just buy a proper storage bag and hang it up against the wall. I'll probably give the winch a go at some point.
I have never really liked the wheels that are currently on the car, so I debated long and hard either to replace them with some gorgeous 18" 1series dark grey wheels for around £1200 or to try painting the wheels and seeing what they look like.
Took a risk with a paintjob as if it didn't really work out its only a few hundred lost and id just sell them.
Found a place in South Shields (Newcastle-ish) that had great reviews etc so left it in their capable hands.
4 days later this was the outcome....

Personally love the finish.
What you cant see on the pictures is theres a metal flake finish, so in bright sunlight they ever so slightly sparkle, looks fantastic.
Almost black / very dark grey.
What I hadn't planned on happening, but I'm glad it did, was that now the wheels are dark, it works very well with the soft top and the bits of black around the car such as the door handles etc.

If you can see I had ordered carbon centre caps for the wheels, but I'm considering putting the originals back on as they might contrast well with the black!

Opinions are more than welcome as I'm aware, painting OEM BMW wheels are not to everyones taste, as are black wheels in general!

But I love it ;-)

Welcome David!
Whatever you drink and brought you to the forum is good!
Buying a Zed with mileage and service book is not a problem: with a good maintenance and some TLC, the Zed is bullet proof!
The Z3 is one of the unique convertible which looks terribly good with the hard top, in my opinion too.
You saved good money with the paint job of the rims and it's looking great. On the other hand original rims ar one of a kind, so you did well kipping it.
And now you will enjoy the sun and you will became addicted!
Wish you many miles with the roof down!
Dan

Thanks Dan! Sunny today so the roof is off
I'm already addicted I just love driving the thing.
If i ever want to restore the car to original I can just get the wheels stripped and painted silver
