I’d love one but in addition to the Z3, not to replace, very different cars.

The seating position, driver centric cabin and rifle bolt gearshift is something I wish the Z3 had.
Even the 5th gen Prelude I had was an amazing place to ‘do business’ from, everything laid out right. Crap and bland plastics sure but laid it just right.

The Z is by comparison a brute of a thing and that’s fine and what’s them such different Cars.

The main reason I never really considered them when buying the Z was fear of dying. I’ve had FWD VTEC which are fun and manageable but need big revs (and therefore big speed) to be fun. No couple big revs + RWD and I’m thinking of a big fireball in the hedge!

I would love a letter Vtec one day, a proper old school one, light and zero torque but mega revs like the old 1.6 units.
Know what you mean on the high end revs mate but can't be bothered with it, love my lazy straight 6 that can also lift up her skirt and get down the road, to a degree, when the need takes.

Once you have had Vtec you tend to drive everything like that (or use 3rd when 5th will do!)

I got a 330i after my prelude and whilst the torque was nice it was just so linear in delivery it was actually boring by comparison (but sounds good).
By comparison the 2.8 single vanos has that ‘kick’ which reminds me of Vtec but with torque.
With the Simota intake it screams like one too!

Not driven a VTec but have the single VANOS so looks like I'm on a winner then :D

The VTEC is a totally different drive to anything out there.

If you think a Z comes "on power" when the VANOS kicks in, that's nothing to when a VTEC kicks in.

I don't like it, because I have too much mechanical sympathy and I don't like the idea of needing 9000rpm, but you are well rewarded if you are willing to push it to the max.

I'm also a lazy driver who likes to get some oomph from 2500rpm. There's no oomph below 5000rpm in a VTEC - but when it comes it's like a banshee.

Looked at one as one of my considerations when looking for a roadster. I liked the looks and the driving position felt more sat in it instead of sat on compared to the ///M.

Decided my license would not last that long to have the most fun out of it, maybe same could be said about the ///M but it has a bit more grunt lower down but saying that I’m still surprised Ive never picked up any points during my ownership.

I still wouldn’t mind one if I could have a few cars and plastics could be trimmed if a keeper but as it is I still prefer my beemer.

Not into Jap cars to be honest, most all the cars I have owned have been German.
Not including company cars I have had but hey, I did not own them .... ;)

Never liked any Jap brands. Just dull and boring and all much of a much to me. The S2000 is a better thing but not for me.

i quite like the S2000 but if I changed the Zed for another roadster it would be an 90's SL or an Alfa Spider. Very nearly bought an Alfa before I got the Zed but the garage sold it while I was making my mind up

Once tried a Civic VTR with the vtec engine, and if you drive it in the upper rev range you just sound, and look, like you are driving like a 17yr old tw*t, and if you are in that range you probably are...=))
rather have a low rev burble than a high pitched scream anyday
The MC does both of these things, after 13 years and 200K miles in it, I still love it.:)

I have a buddy ('mate') that bought a first-gen S2000 new. Around town it was relatively gutless, with no torque available unless you revved the hell out of it. It would 'come on the pipe' quite nicely, though. We took a roadtrip to the USGP/Indianapolis in it, and I drove almost the whole way. Even on the highway the lack of on-demand passing torque was frustrating and I always had to drop a gear (or two). He ended up trading it on a Mustang GT after a few years.

This is exactly how i felt with it.

Ok if you don't mind ragging the hell out of it to go fast, I know they're designed for it, but that's not the way I drive.

I suppose I've got old, I much prefer the effortless pace that the Z3 gives.

Such a shame as it used to be my dream car, I was so excited about finally getting the chance to own a really good one. Quick road test and I ruled it out.

I had a Civic Vti years ago, that was high revs power delivery, loved that, but as I said, years ago when I was younger. Got a Pulsar GTiR after that, wish I still had that.
