His first 16 years were awful. Abandoned by a fella seeing father who had lost his throne and was in exile. His mum was sent to an asylum. He was left to fend for himsel much of the time. Went to Gordonstone. Supported by the royal family at the time. When he asked to marry Princess Elizabeth the courtiers at the time thought he was to much of a joker and a bit ‘rough’ He managed to make a life for himself, and has provided a support to young people through Duke of Edinburgh Award and to the environment. If anyone should have My Way played at his funeral it is him . God bless the man.

“It was part of the fortunes of war,” he said. “We didn’t have counsellors rushing around every time somebody let off a gun, you know asking ‘Are you all right – are you sure you don’t have a ghastly problem?’ You just got on with it.”
Definitely not "Snowflake" material was he Mike. He made it to 99 despite no counselling the same as many others.

Tony.

Prince Philip was a lifelong petrolhead and had tried his hand at a range of vehicles from Jaguar sports cars to Land Rovers.

A Lagonda 3-Litre DHC once owned by Philip sold at auction for £350,000 in April 2016.

The special Ogle GTS below with Triplex glass roof was acquired by Prince Philip for his own personal use for two years before being loaned to the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu.

Its also been reported that the Land Rover to carry his coffin at his funeral on Saturday was built to his design specifically for that purpose.

I was an Apprentice electrician in the early 80s at Vickers shipyard in Barrow when the Queen and Prince Philip came tp open a submarine simulator facility for the yet to be built Trident Submarines as the queen visited the Dignitaries the Prince made a bee line for the workers and immediately chatted to us all and started telling us jokes and stories about his life in the navy
