Cheers gazhyde, we put a new rear screen in it on Saturday, never attempted it before & took about an hour or so, much improved & very satisfying

Hi frankie, yep it was a zip in screen I got from eBay for just over £70, very pleased with it-seller states they are not genuine but reckons they are a superior American plastic, time will tell......

Looks a good job. Was it damaged, or just wanted something you could actually see through? :watching:

Bit of both, had turned opaque & also had a vertical split in it, I've now removed both of the rivet type things below the roll bars as I discovered the screen scrapes them as it's lowered into its hold, the wind cheater clips onto them as does the tonneau cover, both stay put fine without them luckily.

Have you gentlemen ever repaired the zipper that is attached to the top itself? My zipper is starting to come loose in several areas and I am curious if there is a way to fix it?
    Thanks

I've heard of people resewing the zipper to the soft top by threading through the original holes with thread, they seem to get worn away in the lower corners.
Is that what's happening to yours?

Yes, the lower corners are failing, so far about 2 or 3 inches on each side of the left corner. I'm sure the right will follow if I fix the left.
By the way, nice collection of motorcycles from what I can see in the pictures & avitar! I have a 01 Fireblade myself.

You did well, Mr Smartbear, there's many a Zedder ended up tearing their hair out trying to put in a replacement rear window, it only takes one or two teeth out of line and the job turns into a nightmare!!!
You must put a folded towel/tea towel along the outside crease of the window, every time you put the top down now, so that the frame doesn't rest on the plastic and scratch it.

If the stitching is very bad,as mine was , the only option was to remove the top and restitch it. If small sections are rotten the rest isn't far behind. Hand stitching will only be a bandaid. Apparently, only BMW replacement tops come with zip ins so I think I will order a new aftermarket top and get the window removed and stitch in the original piece with a new zip in window. JIM

Thank you for that, I'll have to take a good look at it and make my assesment. Ordering an aftermarket top and using a BMW window sounds like a great idea too!
    Thanks

Hi mike&sandy, mrs smartbear has got some fleece and sewn in some rare earth magnets which stick to the soft top frame so the fleece stays in the right place as the roof is lowered

That's a good Idea, BMW also made a special cover for the rear screen.
