my z3 3.0 sport has done 104k miles.

It has a full service history.

It was built in 2002 and is very beautiful.

I was driving it yesterday in Portugal, 29*c roof down and it was running beautifully. Such pleasure.

However, I'm sure many would look at the mileage and consider it too high?

I can't imagine the car could have performed any better say any 20 or 40k miles?

I have looked at replacing it with a lower mileage car but spending quite a lot more for say 50 or 60k miles doesn't seem much sense?

I decided whilst enjoying my drive yesterday to keep mine as long as I can. I'm in my 60's so hopefully a good while yet.

For potential buyers I'd say with the correct history, oil changes and obvious care, don't be put off with either a good few owners, or high miles.

Oooh that's not even run in yet for that silky smooth 3.0. Another few trips round the planet left yet. Enjoy

104k is nothing for these 6 cylinder engines. Mines only 5k behind you and it doesn't worry me at all. @Mint 2.2 sport has done 178000k and still going strong. Like you say regular servicing and enjoy.

I have someone coming to see me today for some parts and his car has 266k miles so don't you worry about 104. Mine has 130k

just about run in at 100k, i believe that super low miles after this much time isn't a great thing as it can lull you into a false sense of security.

all components have a shelf life and i prefer a car that has a little mileage under its belt.

Mine passed 120,000 yesterday on the way home from the Wye valley run and it still feels as good as it did when I bought it on 21,000 miles. Just regular servicing and keep it away from main dealers.

Why keep it away from main dealer? I've had quite a bit of work done at the main dealer in Portimao in Portugal. They are the cheapest main dealer in Europe for labour rates €55 per hour and I've found them very good, especially regarding parts. They have not just assumed everything to be replaced and are very careful to contact me with their advice which often is "this is fine, this is fine, I'd consider replacing...."
my local garage here in Bristol charge £55 an hour and it's just a backstreet place.
What do you think?

There is obviously a big difference in Main dealer prices between here and Portugal, I don't think you will find one in UK charging much less than £100 per hour. Although very good at spares supply and car sales, my experience is that mechanically, they are not very good at anything which cannot be solved with a computer.

If you do decide to sell I would be interested, however I agree with the rest that 100k is nothing for the 6 pot, it amazes me when we go on the meets and there is some very spirited driving that most of the cars are over 100k and some are edging toward 200k and when I say spirited I actually mean hammered :D

A red line a day keeps the carbon away ;)

A redline in every gear keeps the plugs white :D, I also found another 500rpm after the redline before you hit the limiter, this 500 sounds bloody spectacular with the induction kit,

Try the extra 500 mate, it will put a big grin on your face, I do it every now and again and shift just before the limiter hits,
I'll give it a whizz when next home mate ......... after a snow foam, clay bar, engine clean, SRP and HD Wax, that's another 2mph :D

the "Rescue Pup" below has 145k on the clock and has had 9 previous abusers. Imperfect history and needs most of the usual niggles sorting, but the 6 pot is still silky smooth.

My little 1.9 regularly gets bounced on the limiter every time it's out! Just waiting for my little girl mechanic to replace the thermostat and water pump. She'd best hurry as snow predicted for about the next week on and off. JIM
