Thanks for welcome, I am in the process of hunting down a 2.8 Z3 having now moved on after 50yrs of Classic Older Cars. The ground is getting a bit harder now and the spanners stick to my hands so I have moved away from them now. After much searching of different makes & models decided that I would settle on a Z3...... The hunt is on :nailbiting: Les

Welcome Les,

I think a fair few of us have come in to zed ownership from older cars. I had a '66 landy which spent more time on the drive than the road...

Shout if you have any questions, or want us to look over the occasional car advert :)

Thanks to the above, I have had a few Landies over the years Series II, III & lightweights loved them as everyone gets out of your way when you approach a roundabout :)
Again though not so lightweight to work on ;)
Viewing the sports cars available, Merc, Mazda, Toyota, MG etc and researching into associated problems with them the BM was a no brainer as its well established, built and still DIY friendly with some problems I know but most are not terminal unlike some of the pit falls with other makers happening when 10yrs+ older (some even less than that). After all if you are going to invest time & money in a motor you don't want terminal problems that are to costly in time or money to fix. ;)
Yes a lot of Z's about, as always its about condition, location, history and I also want a Post 98 one. I am sure with daily internet checks and a few search engines throwing them up daily one will stand out as a good (fingers crossed) purchase. Not in a desperate rush so thats a plus :D Les

I hope so, as you know only so much you can do and check, people are not up for you dismantling it :woot:

Also must learn to put indifferent hat on not looking too keen ;)

If you can find one that a forum member is selling then we do tend to be a little more honest

Welcome Les!
I like your avatar!:)
Before Zed I had/have only oldtimers, most part convertibles. In my country obviously is was impossible for an average person to own a modern convertible! Seven years ago we decided that we need a modern car for road trips in Europe. And I start to search....after a while I realized that I'm not able to spend the money on a normal car (!) and wished to have for the mentioned purpose a two seater , convertible.....More searches and the best choice was the Z3. I made a test for the driving position (because some roadster are really too small/ narrow for 1.85 m driver's height!) and being completely satisfied, I focused on the desired Zed. In six months I got the car from Germany and since, never wiped the smile from my face and heart! I wished a 2.8  but as in my country such car is prohibitive (very high taxes for cars over 2 litres!) , I voted for the Massive M44 and we became instantly very good friends.
Wish you a good hunt, be patient but decide quick when you find it!:)
And the reward is that I never expected to find such high quality friendly community ! All clubs are very open, but I sticked more to this forum and to the Italian club Z3mendi, where I'm a member.
You made the right choice,
Dan
