So, I’ve just joined and haven’t actually got a Zed of any numeric value. But I’m considering one, a 3 or a 4.
A bit of background, I’ve been retired for around 18 months and have had company cars for around 30 years and never could justify having a ‘nice’ or ‘weekend’ car. The company ones were very much utilitarian - Escorts, Astras, Focus Mondeo etc you get the gist.
So….. come retirement I got rid of the sensible car (Honda CRV) that I HAD to pay towards (company cars ain’t wot they used to be let me say, it’s a long story with battles with an inept well known Japanese titled leasing company ) and ahem, treated myself to a Y2K Jaguar XK8 Coupe with 44.5k on its clock with reams of history. Oh, yes and an 06 plate Freelander for the mucky jobs. Don’t get me wrong, I think the Jags great, even its 22mpg average but wifey has recently started mumblings about ‘reliability’ and ‘can’t go away in this’ triggered by the check engine light brought on by a Lambda sensor at the beginning of a day out. My protestations about it being nothing and it’s an old car didn’t seem to cut the mustard.
Anyway, onto Zeds. I’ve always liked the various incarnations of both the 3’s and 4’s and I’m having a hard time choosing which to go for. I like the fact that the earlier 3’s had a manual roof but heated seats seem to be rare. More creature comforts are there in the 4’s, but the power roof concerns me, rationally or not. That was one reason I didn’t go for an XK8 ragtop - more expensive complications judging by their forum posts. The Jag has some issues - bushes and perhaps the front steel cross member as advisories in the MOT.
Anyway, I think my heart preference is for a 4 with rigid folding roof but that mechanism…..
Regards,
Michael.
