Hi all,
My name is Colin. I live in deepest, darkest, Mid Wales. Where it has been persisting down all day, well, what do you expect!
Although I am now retired, I spent most of my working life as a mechanic. Firstly in the R.A.F. then later, for nearly 23 years, with the local council on the grounds and small plant dept, if you can call JCB type plant and modern day tractors 'small plant' that is!
I recently became the owner of a 2003 E85 Z4. Bought mainly as a project to keep myself busy. Although I have many other hobbies, including Amateur Radio, photography and astronomy. I also go to vintage car / steam rallies with a friend who has a 1971 Ford Cortina Mk2 in superb condition. I did take the Z4 with me on one occasion and was asked by a woman: 'What's that doing here, it's not a vintage car!' to which my friend replied: 'No, it's a modern classic!' Anyone agree?
Since my wife passed away a few years ago, there is just me and my small white poodle traveling in the Zed'. She loves it. I have made a box with her bedding in that is strapped in with the seat belt and she is in a harness attached to the seat. It's quite comical watching her ears flapping around when the top is down!
I have bought a 'Carly' and have coded a few things with it and next week the wheels get taken to be blasted and re-painted. I was thinking of getting them done in a 'gunmetal grey' as a contrast to the silver of the body. Any thoughts? Once she is up in the air, she will be getting a full makeover.
Anyway, thanks for taking time listening to an old f**t rambling on!
I do have some questions for you knowledgeable guys and girls out there, so I will be posting later.
All the best for now, Colin.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Where in Mid Wales are you? A fellow forumite @miller1098 is in Carno which is very close to the geographical centre of Wales

Shadow chrome wheels (as the 2001/2 MR/MC) look good with a silver car.

My dog also loves a convertible, welcome aboard.:)

:welcome: Colin, from North Norfolk, where the sun has been shining and the temps well above average...Ha!..:D

I'm another retired gentleman, but Mr Hardtop calls me an old Fart!... Huh, What does he know, the young whippersnapper!
If you keep any sheep, don't let on! There are some folk on this site that will don wellingtons, find them and do unmentionable things to them.;) Apart from that most folks on this site are fine, you are in good hands.
Tell me do Welsh people really say "Yakky Da?"...All the best chum.

:drinks:

Bonzo.

Thank you all very much for a really warm welcome! It's very much appreciated.
Jack... I live in Llandrindod Wells. Or to us locals, Llan'dod. I know Carno quite well, I have been to a few breakdowns there when working for the Council. Oh, happy days! I must say though, your part of the country can be quite stunning!
Cooper.. All the way out in Oz, well done mate, good on'yer! I have a long lost cousin out your way, but can't remember where about's, l'll have to look it up. Still, yours is such a small country out there you will probably know her, I think she lives just up the road from you in Cairns!!
Hah! Tony... I well remember those dark, foggy, winter nights going home from Boston to Nottingham! I don't think I would risk taking the Z4 out then. You are a brave man. Too many dykes to run into. (the ones with water in, that is!)
Hey Philip, I thought I was the only one in Wales with a 2 seater BMW!! It's amazing how, when you get a car that is new to you, you see dozens of them after that. I saw a Z3 passing through Llan'dod last week, I'm guessing he was passing through as he had his eyes closed.
Another Brylcreem Boy, Andy. :snaphappy: What did you do in the R.A.F? I mentioned in my opening post that I was a Radio Amateur, each day there is a 'net' I go on called RAFARS. Royal Air Force Amateur Radio Society, it's only for about half an hour, but we keep in touch, as, it's fair to say, we are all of a 'certain age'!! Good fun though.
Hi Gail, now, let me see it I can guess what you call your Zed:rolleyes:.
Ian, I was umming and arring whether to have chrome. But the coin came down on the 'gunmetal'!!
Ah! EssexZed, My birth place. Braintree. I usually go down that way two or three time a year as I have cousins down there. One of them, Lynne, always refers to me 'coming up to see her' or her 'coming down to see me'. Nothing like old age to get a laugh!
Thank you for the welcome from Ireland, David. And what a lovely looking car!
No, I don't have any sheep, Bonzo. But there is a load of them in the field behind my house, and I can do B&B for those so inclined!! Yes, Yakky da or in Welsh, Iechyd da. Also Borra da, (Bore da) Good morning and Nos da, good night. The wife and I started learning Welsh when we first moved here in 85'. But because there are not a lot of Welsh speakers around here, (there are a lot of 'Ex-Brummies', I think quite a few moved to the Marches during the 50's and 60's. So there is not a lot of accent left now.) it was difficult to practice.
Hiya Stevo, I love Scotland! Have quite a few wonderful memories from there. It's a shame that they didn't make it through to the World Cup finals, they deserved to. They seemed to show a lot more passion than England did, and I'm sure all us England fans will agree on both counts. (Most probably rubbed a few folk up the wrong way there, then!)
And, finally, a big thank you to Gaz for sorting me out in getting on the Forum. Many thanks ,Gaz. I hope that, besides getting questions answered, I can also be of help in some small way.
So, as we say in A.R. Dah de dah, and 73. Colin.
I'll leave you to work out what it means! Bye all!

Hi Ztec,
SEMPER FI.
Ooops, been watching too much NCIS!!!!
I love your dog. What's his/her name? I'll have to put a pic on of mine, Honey. NO! not you, that's my dogs name.

Hi Jjim, I don't believe this... The only place I have not been to of all those who have made me welcome is Australia! I used to live near Mansfield, (Selston) and worked in the Four Seasons Centre as manager for 'Harry Fentons' back in the day. I bet it has changed quite a bit since then! Again, fond memories!
Thanks both! Colin.
