Thanks Ant- I'm going to take the old one out over Christmas and go from thereHello and welcome from me in South Yorkshire.
I have the same issue qith the H.K System, there are two sub boxs a 2 twin speaker and a single i presume yours is the single ?
The speakers in the system are 2Ohm but not massive wattage if its a single it is dual voice coils so feeds twice from the H.K amp.
In my case its been trial and error the front speakers are the same as the sub speakers they work very well in the front with good bass and although as a sub they are distorted and appear blown when driven up front they are actually fine
Bmw sell the speakers so if yours is totally gone it could be replaced.
I've also found that there should be an air duct on the H.K box and without it it can sound blown.
There are aftermarket soloutions but they require modification to the box to fit. Kicker do a 2ohm twin coil shallow sub that fits it can be wired striaght in i believe but it would be vastly under powered off the H.K system.
Depends what you want and what your budget is really , its not an easy one to solve and the cost off an oem speaker will be £80ish i imagine and im not sure if it would actually be a fix as said the speaker that sounds blown may actually be ok and it could be an amp issue.
As my speakers appear ok im going a replacement route have rebuilt a new box and will fit a cheap 6.5" to start with to see if it works if so i will buy the Kicker version can be got for £77 upwards.
Have brought a mono block amp to power it again if it all works JL Audio do a really tiny 300wRms amp that will fit the bill and will be brought if i can accomplish the job .
Good luck any thing i can help with just ask![]()

Finally got round to fitting a Kicker VT which needed a little modifying for the housing but the connections fitted in with the old wiring- now sounds great .
PS - it didn't take 18 months to do this - I'm just an infrequent visitor!
