Hi, welcome from Mansfield.

Do you any preference for a manual or auto?

My first Z3 was a 1.9, great car but I wanted more go so bought a 2.8. Now somehow I've got 4 - 1 x 1.9, 2 x 2.8 and a 2.2

Be putting 2 of these up for sale in the next month.
Hi and wow!! That's an impressive garage!
I don't really have a preference, I'm sure I will have once I've both ;)
Very interested to hear about what you may have for sale!

I'll be putting up for sale:
  • '97 2.8, silver, auto with hardtop
  • '97 1.9, silver, manual
The 1.9 is in excellent condition with a new roof, new suspension, new brake pipes, uprated 3.0ltr brakes, sports seats, and other stuff

The 2.8 is in good condition and is currently having the sills done and a new exhaust fitted.

Once they are ready for sale I will be putting up adverts with pics and full details.

2.8i AUTO and 2.8i MANUAL
@Elaine Thomas I can vouch for a 2.8 auto Z3. Very civilised car, dead easy to drive, lovely and smooth and I consistently get 28-30mpg out of mine. The manual 2.8 is, or can be a right little hooligan car. I have both and depending on my mood I choose which set of keys to pick up.
My auto was my first Zed and I to be honest, if I had to sell one of them it would be the manual.

Hi Jack,
That's really sound and appreciated advice thank you.
I've just enquired about an auto 2.0 as just test drove a manual 1.9 and very oddly being a short lady think it might be better suited to my driving position. Joys of being vertically challenged! Keeping my eyes well and truly peeled for 2.8 though!

Hi and welcome from Warwickshire.

Good luck with the search. Lots of advice freely available and much already given.
Be sure to ask what suspension bushes parts have been changed. These can make a dramatic difference to handling. Worth seeking out or being prepared to have them done on the right car.

Hello and thank you :)
Popped to test drive a Z3 today and funnily enough I asked about these having done some research and looking at the previous topics here for help and pointers and he looked at me blankly, needless to say I'm still carless:whistle: have a few Z3 and Z4s I'm hoping to go and see armed with all you lovely members tips and advice on buying.

Hi @Elaine Thomas and welcome. If you’ve got your car by July (or even if you haven’t!) you’ll love this event...

Being from the southern end of the country it’s not desperately far away from you. We put out a very good turn out every year for this. Last year we had 44 cars so it’s a great chance to meet some of us.
Hello!
That looks like a great meet and I've marked it on the calendar so that makes it official! I am hoping to have my Zed by then and look forward to meeting lots of you and having a giggle at watching me try to park!
Thank you for the heads up, what a lovely welcome from this group!

Welcome, it does seem a nice place here.

I bought a (what seems to be) rust free 1.9 in my favourite colour last September. The coolant reservoir leaked like boat with no hull. I think that is fixed, well it looked good on Tuesday. I have an airbag light on, some centre console bulbs out and am just adding a wind breaker.
Whilst I drove it a little under the previous owners insurance etc (before i bought it) I have not really driven it. Insured and will be taxed tomorrow for the 1st.
I was looking at a Smart Roadster originally but a few things put me off. Then an MX5 but eventually I came across a Z3 (2.0 6 pot) which took my fancy but was am absolute POS. Rust everywhere and so bad it probably would not have moved on the rusted brakes. However I was taken by them.
I also have two other cars, one of them a weekend play thing and the other a Mercedes CLA which is my regular car. However the Z3 will double up as a daily in the summer hence a [weedy] 4-pot 1.9. :p
It will have a lot to live upto as I owned an Alfa 916 Twin Spark Spider of the same age before this. Anyway so far so good. This will be a fun car for me but also being a daily needs to be a bit economical.

Good luck with the search whatever you buy.

PS if it is purely for fun I would really consider a 6 cylinder car. Despite being a s*** heap, that 2.0 six I looked at did run and did sound very nice.
