Hi all, at the grand age of 67 I've only just got the Z3 bug! All my life I've had plushy saloon/estates, of late 2 X 5 series, the wife with a 3 compact. I've also had as a hobby interest a Citroen XM which I still have and here comes the crux of it. Since retiring from the TV repair business I am having problems rationalising my two plushy cars, my Citroen and our shared high spec 2009 3 series touring. What I came to realise is that what I want is a fun car. After researching I found the Z3 and love the looks of it. I don't have the car yet and can only afford what I get for my 24 yr old 45k mile Citroen so with work to do on it I'm still some time away from a purchase. About me, as a TV engineer and with a serious hobby interest in car mechanics since the early 70's and computers since the 1990s I was well placed to be able to do my own diagnostics and currently use a Delphi clone. So once I sell the Citroen I'm going to be looking for a nice Z3 and looking forward to getting to know your site. Best wishes and a big hello, Chris

Welcome, from Mansfield.

Hope you’re able to get the Citroen sorted and moved on and able to look for the Z3 you want. Any idea on engine size, colour, post or prefacelift?

Hi all,
Well what a welcome! Thank you all.
As I say I'm a few months away from buying a Z3.
As we are all aware I must buy a pre March 2001 eg an X reg or before due to the road tax implications.
I think I will be looking for a facelifted post '98 model, I have read that these have better insulation in the soft top and improved specs. I am not a purist, I just want a good fun car for the wife and I and one that she can enjoy also (can I hear some tutting?)
Sadly I must buy probably in the spring when prices for convertibles rise but I will see how I go with my Citroen.
As an aside I have since becoming interested in the Z3 asked friends what they think about a 67 yr old fat guy buying a convertible! So far opinions have been OK but are they just being kind? LOL!
Thanks again for your welcoming replies,
Best regards,
Chris

Hi thanks for your reply, I've had 2 x BX's, 1 x Xantia, an XM 2.5 turbo diesel estate and this 2.0i turbo petrol. I haven't had much trouble with any of them, the best by far was the 2.5 estate, I hammered it and at 130k it never let me down. So I've done that subject to death! but now it's time for something really nice. Chris

Hi youngster , I drive the 2.2 and have great fun ,I am now 74 and 18 stone so you have no worries, but for some odd reason I find it a lot easier getting and out with the roof on. Son bought this 6 years ago but 3 years ago needed a mini ( turned out to be a fully loaded CooperS)for driving in London,so I took it over. Bit but I do consider the 2.2 the best option.
