Hi All,

Just to introduce myself to you all.

Having owned a 92 316 some years ago and now having time to use a car at weekends... I am currently looking at getting a "half decent" Z3.... I say half decent as like most I guess, I do like doing a bit of tinkering.... don't we all.....

Any info regarding what to look for and whats the best model etc to get would be appreciated at this stage...

Homelife, Live with my beaut of a partner... Sandra... been together for nearly 15 yrs now.... and have been through everything together.
Home is in a small village around 6 miles from Alton Towers in Staffordshire...

Hobbies are detailing cars... classic rebuilds, F1... and all things motoring...

Think that just about covers most things.... other than I have been wondering about getting one of the following
Merc Slk, Toyota Mr2 rodaster, and a BMW Z3..... hope I am making the right choice in going for a Z3....lol....

Welcome! We may be a little biased, but would say you've made the correct choice :D

Most Z3's now require a certain level of tinkering and most you look at will give you plenty of opportunity to get your hands dirty!

:welcome: to the forum from West Cumbria. Z3 defo the right choice IMHO. As for engine size I think they all have there merits and all peeps will sing the merits of their Z3. I opted for the 2.8 purely because I liked the look of it, oh, and it pulls like a train and does 1,000,000 smiles to the gallon.:)

Sill corrosion is the most obvious so have a good look under the sills, leaks in the boot from the arial grommet and third brake light too. Check to see if the seats move under acceleration and braking, if so the bushes are shot. Easy fix for DIY and cheap from a Forum member. More technical boffins will be along soon. Good luck.

Welcome from Canada and I agree with Gaz about most will give you a chance to spin wrenches if you have to. Either you'll find yourself fixing what's broken or making improvements to what you already have. All you need to know is right here so pick a model dependant upon the size of your wallet and good luck!! JIM

Hi @sata, welcome from me near Lincoln. Great choice in the Z, I looked a few SLK's before buying my Z3. I had it for nearly 6 years but bought my Z4 a year ago. My choice would be a 2.8 if you can find one in your budget, on a recent Euro cruise a couple of members with a 2.2 and a 2.8 were refuelling at about the same times and amounts so mpg is quite similar.

Tony.

That was me in the 2.8 and minty mint in the 2.2. Yes mpg was very very close. Within a litre at all the fill ups if I recall. Dave will tell you as he keeps an eye on it. Oh and welcome to the forum!

Welcome from another staffordshire newby!

I looked at both the SLK and Z3 before I settled with a Z3 - IMO the Z3 seems far better put together, and less complicated making it easier to tinker with!

my wife had an MR2 roadster new (before we had kids) - I remember there was next to no luggage space!

Hello and welcome. IMO it's got to be the z3, it won't date as they aren't making any new versions of it, they all look similar, whereas the slk is still in production so makes the older ones look dated.
Good luck. @Mac_Gaz had a lovely one for sale have a trawl through the for sale threads
