Hey guys! Looking to make my ideal road racing daily. Before we start i should probably mention i live in la so i know smog woildnt look to kindly on this but the upside is I'm a mechanic and went to school for it so if the mods dont require a lift I can do put the parts back on myself when the smog man needs me to. Just uh, dont tell anyone ya?
Anyways ill be doing a lot of these mods through out the year and have a good idea of what to do but kind of at a speedbump when it comes to getting to exactly where id like to be.
ideally id like to get the car to have 260hp flywheel and weigh 25-2600lbs, heres what i have in mind so far:
Power
*m50b25 intake
*s52 cams
*ecu flash or chip
I hear that should get me around 220-230hp

Weight
*seats -100lbs (stock seats i think are 70-75lbs each? Was going to go with sparcos at 23lbs each)
*battery -20lbs
*Spare + tools + carpets -40lbs?
roughly 160lbs so probably puts me at 2750?
Anyone know if you save weight if you ditch the soft top and go for a hardtop? Any suggestions not thought of here that'd make the car still semi drivable? Id like to keep the ac until I get a second car because I live in desert land =p
Also was thinking of switching to an electronic fan and electronic water pump to free up some power. The weight is whats killing me unless i go full race car.

For weight savings, ditch:
- spare tire and frame
- harmonic balance weights behind the rear bumper.

I didn't realise that the M50B28 made it to the Z3. Check your engine, you might find it to be a M52B28 engine.

Nice thanks for the feedback! How much do the harmonic balancers weigh?
And crud think youre right. Will the mods mentioned still work with the m52?

The weights are around 3 to 5 pound each.

Your engine mods will work with the M52B28 engine.

I've got M50 intake manifold + K&N air filter with remap and 220bhp. I bet it was some ready map, rather then custom map for that price. With M50 intake, s52 cams and custom map I think you can go more than 230bhp. There are big throttle bodies available to buy, but I've seen different opinions about them. Defiently you need to think about some less restrictive exhaust. Supersprint has ready full system including headers, but it cost fortunne.

Wow those are great gains for not a lot of cash (comparatively), thanks for the input man! Throttle bodies also a good idea, id love to do an exhaust but itd be a little too complicated for me to remove during smog time.
