Vehicle security device? What has that got to do with being "Roadworthy"
 
Lots of cars will fail with the noise suppression test
 
And it seems if you drive a 40 year old car with a chassis thats about to snap, dodgy brakes and steering, thats fine, but on a modern car make sure your alarm works o_O
 
I wonder if these apply to the actual European cars of the following countries. Romania, Poland, Spain, Greece and Bulgaria where the cars are shocking
 
I hope everyone who has a loud sports exhaust have kept there original one :whistle:

Just had a quick read through it , and it appears the referred to Anti theft device is the Steering Lock, and then applying to cars registered after 1st Sept 2001.
Seems I am OK as the sensor in the boot got wet and ,inoperative , and car registered 1st May 2001.
Interestingly I can see no reference to Valve Condition , which I recently had a justifiably DANGEROUS for ----and 2 of them were very perished. Yet car still passed.[valve replaced next day, and the 2 psi loss over 10 days now stopped]

If you read the government papers there are a lot of further info that to be fair makes some sense of the changes, but the consultation papers and final intervention regarding 40+ year vehicles is a joke, "one" of the justifications was to align MOTs exceptions with road tax exception, the two have no correlation whatsoever.
 
Typical hotch potch of ideas from the EU. Why reversing lights on vehicles after 2009? Why now bring in original fit DRLs when they were introduced 9? years ago. Why front fog lights when you only need to have one on the O/S rear. The steering lock (operation) has been part of the test for quite a while already in case you weren't aware. Now you can get an idea why I'll be getting out of this trade asap, and the sooner we cut ties with the beaurocicity of the EU the better.

I agree that older vehicles should be tested , but the test would need to be different.
My son has a 1952 LR truck Cab, that does not have any indicators, washers, or various other modern bits, but structurally is as solid as anything. Might do 30 miles per year on road , mainly travels curtesy of Ivor Williams. Just had the exhaust changed as it was not carrying the original design.
The laugh is when taxing the LR , you get asked if you want 6 month or 12 month , they are both same cost--- NIL, and it is insured for road use ,fully comp , agreed value.

Totally agree it needs to be different and this was proposed by the elected steerage group, proposed to cover brakes, steering, lights and structural integrity, it was dismissed!!
 
. . . . . . . . . . so, if you were considering buying a HID headlight kit to improve your headlights, don't. From May 20th. it will fail the test
