Hi guys.. so I thought i woukd take advantage of the weather and go for a spin in the z3... everything going great until I noticed smoke coming from the left rear wheel... pulled over and it's smoking bad... any ideas... waited for it to cool down and limped home with a sense of in depending doom... please any thought ??

Seized calliper Dave or at best pads sticking in the carrier.

Tony.

ps. @Philpatton had the same problem a couple of weeks ago mate.

What Tony said ^^^^^^^^

Yep, seized caliper

This is why you need to resolve it urgently. Nearly new pads destroyed in 200-300 miles and starting to break up from the heat of a sticking front caliper.

Compare left and right sides together here.

And see crack in pad material and general surface break up.

Thank you everybody... once again amazing help from the Zed community

Regards and thanks again to you all

Yes Dave, simple job. Only possible issue is bleeding the new calliper after fitting, but that's easy to talk you through. Tools needed after removing wheel are, a 7mm alley key or socket for slider pins, 14mm spanner for flexible hose and 7,8 or 9mm spanner for bleed screw depending on size fitted in new calliper.

Tony.

Yep, had the same issue and recently had to change a siezed rear caliper. Not a difficult job. If you're feeling adventurous you could rebuild the old one with a repair kit, but if you just want to swap the caliper for a new/reconditioned one it's worth shopping around as prices vary enormously. For some reason rear calipers are much dearer than front ones.

Because rears are unique to Z3. Fronts are used on various models. Supply and demand. That's why I rebuilt my rears and bought in fronts. Though next time I may rebuild the fronts too. Best try these ones I've just done tomorrow first though.
