Hi folks. New to this group and also car restoration. I started a simple project with my son and we removed some rotten panels and no find we can’t source the outer sills to replace them.

can anyone offer any advice about where to find them?

thanks. Nick

Hi Nick, welcome from me too near Lincoln. If you can find some used sills in favorable condition and you can make them usable yourself then that's a possible way to go. I don't think anyone would sell you any that were past redemption, on here anyway. However if possible the best option is to buy new from BMW for peace of mind.

Tony.

I replaced mine with OEM a few years ago but I didn't throw the old ones away, they are now back in service with another forum member.

Hi Nick... I got mine from Dick Lovett in Bristol last year.. I think I paid around £300 for both sides.. got them sprayed up at a local body shop.. funnily enough had them do some work on other parts of the car last week and it came back today with the new sills fitted

Welcome along Nick!
I'm doing the same job on my Zed. I went for a new sill on the RH side as it was toasted. The original LH side was in good shape and cleaned up well. I would recommend cleaning any remaining dirt from the chassis rail through the conveniently pressed holes while you are having the sills repainted. Follow that with a generous spray of dinitrol or similar long term preserver into sill structure and a coat brushed onto the chassis rail face.Make sure you put some cardboard under the car to catch any drips as they stick to your drive like s**t to a blanket! I also applied it to the inner skin of the sill cover too. I've included a picture of the Gravitex stone chip paint and gun recommended by forum members required to apply it to the lower portion of the sills. Both came from machine mart.
Its worth getting your bolts repainted at the same time as your sills, or at least getting the left over paint so you can do it yourself.
All the best with your project.

Cheers, Jonno
