My wife took the Z3 drove 4 miles and parked (all ok )
When she returned, she opened the car with the remote and now the alarm keeps hoing off.
I have now had to disconnect the battery as the alarm keeps going off.

Its not got any water in the left hand side of the boot has it ? The tilt sensor is there and it is like a bucket for water may be worth checking.

Also check the bonnet switch as that is quite common to fail. If you just disconnect it and see if it stops the Alarm triggering then that's your culprit.

Thanks Antm72 right on the money

Question is will I have to replace this or can I just dry it out?

I would dry it and try it, and maybe say a few payers first!;)

Tony.

You could try drying it out it looks to have been submersed awhile. As its part if the alarm not sure if its just a sensor that can be swapped or it has to programmed to be reconised by the system im sure it won't trigger if its just disconnected but may be wrong trial and error there but glad you have located the cause

....... im sure it won't trigger if its just disconnected but may be wrong .........

Think you're right - not all cars were fitted with the "tilt" sensor (mine included) but the plug is part of standard wiring harness. I think it's similar to the bonnet switch which you can unplug and the rest of the system still operates.

UPDATE:

I put the tilt sensor onto the house radiator for a day, after that I used a household surface cleaner to clean tthe circuit board with an old tooth brush. Dry with a paper towel then put it back on the radiator.
I also got a small drill and drilled the rubber grommet in the boot so it emptyed all the water and dryed out.
Fitted it all back together and tried it out.
Perfect works great
Thanks for all your help.

Nice one Stevie, great that it's fixed without too much extra trauma mate.

Good job Steve. Just need to stop the water getting into the boot now. Prime candidate would be the aerial grommet or the third brake light seal.

to be honest, the car has not been used for a few weeks, just sitting on the driveway, with the weather we have been getting the full car was full of condensation.
luckily i work for a fire and flood restoration company, so later on i will put a couple of dehumidifiers in the car, one in the car and a small one in the boot for a few days and all should be ok.

Used the car for the first time in a few weeks too - same thing, opened the car and the alarm went off.
Managed to get it to stop, but once at work locked via the key fob and alarm went off again - embarrassing or what

Put it down to the usual suspects boot/bonnet switches, so gave them a skoosh of WD40

After seeing this thread, went out to check mine, same thing, there was a puddle of water and ice - I had to use a heat gun to melt ice, before I could remove the water

I'll give it a few days to dry out properly
