Mot day and just discovered the washer jet hose is split! :arghh:

Can anyone help me get the part number? Or is this just a standard bit of hose the MOT station will get anywhere?

Wish I'd done my checks yesterday now!!IMG_20170601_110434.jpg

Gorilla tape ...it will hold ... its even better than baling twine for repairs :D

Tried tape... Just wouldn't hold, it's a regular bit of hose but the MOT place don't keep any stock... Just flew up to dealers and got one in for 2pm... MOT at 2.30pm, nowt like being prepared eh! ...thanks for the suggestions chaps... Baling twine.. I'll remember that mate cheers.

Well... Turns out the split hose was negligible as I had a broken front spring (suspiciously) so failed my MOT along with something else I thought was weird... The indicator being slightly the "wrong" colour due to an old bulb! And I thought a working winker was good enough!? o_O

So now it's £134 for a single bmw spring x 2 if the other one is same age... I had planned on fitting the seemingly popular eibachs with bilsteins in the future but this is making things tricky at the moment.

I could just go for a cheap single £40 spring and enjoy some motoring or wait until I'm ready to upgrade suspension all round... The current oem shocks and springs on the rear don't look to be the originals so it just adds to the dilemma..I somehow feel like I might end up doing the same job twice

Anyone?

Are you on standard spring or sport springs? I may have a set for you, I also think I have some of the hose too.

That's a good point Brian, I think being a 3.0 then they are sport springs? Will check using the VIN checker. I got the hose sorted easily enough.

Our local DVSA say unless an indicator is white it's an advise, but a bulb won't break the bank.

Yeah I know Tony, I just didn't realise the colour was a fail. The guy did show me but I'll be damned if I could see the difference. I'd changed the rear bulbs, but was just surprised.

That's what I did mate, BMW sell that hose by the meter so didn't buy quite enough so went to Halfords for a temporary fix.

I can see there has been quite and debate over whether or not sports suspension is standard on all 3.0, mine dates from late June 2000 and there is no mention of suspension on the VIN checker in any standard or Optional extras. Screenshot_20170601-222504.png

Not sure how to go about confirming by measuring Brian but I'm leaning towards standard suspension.

If you're thinking of a total suspension upgrade in the near future Stefan, my advice will be put on an aftermarket one to keep your car going until such time.

Some testers are very anal about these bulbs mate, one at ours consistently so and one when he has his head up his arse. Pot luck really.

I've learnt my lesson and will be checking the car over much earlier prior to MOT in future.. and that includes removing and checking every bulb regardless...not knowing about the washer jet hose is a result of just not having driven more than 200 miles in the last year so windscreen never needed wiping,.. Ironically I bought some lovely chrome Z8 jets and my standard jets were not even functional :bored:

I've had the Z a while but I'm only really just getting acquainted... I think you're right Tony, get a spring on quick and enjoy a few miles, I need to be more patient with upgrades etc, I can see most of you guys have taken years to get your cars just how you want them and take a lot of pleasure from a sharing that.

True mate, I have done quite a lot to my car in nearly 2 years but it is slowing down a bit now. Next "big" expense will be wheel refurb and new tyres. This may even have to wait till next year as saving is taking some doing. Don't miss summer mate, it's here and gone in no time. Just 3 weeks tonight the nights start to draw in. Now there's a scary thought eh? Owning these cars is a marathon, not a sprint!:)

Tony.

I used to love fishing on the Trent during these long evenings Steve, the river is like a mill pond, a magical time of year, just so fleeting mate.:(
