OK everyone. I'm really sorry for waking up this old thread - but when I googled for info this is the page that google put top of the list so it's where people land if they're googling for this slip ring info. So thought I should continue this thread rather than starting another - almost identical - one. Some of the people involved in this old thread are, for their sins, still active members - so here goes.

Anyway. Suffice to say I'm sat at my desk with the slip ring in my hand. To cut a long story short - I didn't mark it or tape it to stop it turning (slap my legs) and after around 8 months rattling around on my desk I have no idea if it's centred.

If I carefully wind it, just with my fingers, tightening up the ribbon inside until I can feel the tiniest amount of resistance and then turning the other way I get around 5.5 full turns till I feel that it's getting near the limit.

Would I be right in thinking that with 2.75 turns it'll be centred and I can assemble the wheel safe in the knowledge that, at least, I'm not going to rip the ribbon when I go full lock in any direction?

Or is there a 'proper' way to centre the clock spring?

Thanks guys.
