Hi, I am fixing the oil leak from the oil filter housing where it bolts onto the block. Does anyone know what the torque settings should be for the 6 bolts? I can't seem to find that information anywhere. Thanks.

I will look at work tomorrow Coops, but TBH I would probably just use my experience to nip the bolts, I know it's easier for me mate. Leave it with me.

Tony.

Thanks Tony,

Well I got all the parts out just to get to the oil filter housing gasket. It was so brittle I couldn't get it out in less than 5 pieces! It was rock solid, no wonder why it was leaking. Once the part comes

in back together it goes... I have never done anything like this before so it is taking me longer than the average bloke. I am also replacing the serpentine belt.

Mine was the same when I changed it earlier this year. I tried to find you the actual torque setting in the TIS last night but found everything but............

As @t-tony says they only need a nip or gentle squeeze. Have you changed the NRV bush? Spring will probably be ok but O rings may have hardened a bit and you can just change them separately. See pic - new on the left - make sure you get the alignment right when you pull it back up.

Oh. I think I remember. It is in the oil filter housing area right? Does it just pull out?

I was considering putting some loctight on the bolts and tighten them quite tight using hand tools only. Only the medium strength loctight if we cannot get the right torque. Is that OK?

Thanks. Where is the nvr bush located. I have not seen it.

It sits in the circular hole at the top of the filter housing - see second pic MAKE SURE YOU PUT IT BACK IN THE RIGHT WAY ROUND!

Thanks. You have a four cylinder? Mine is the six and is different. There seems to be a small valve thing in the middle of my housing.

It pays to shop around. The stealers want $58 for a new belt but I can get it from another European shop for $35. Looks like they just got a new customer! :)

Hi Coops, I found that there isn't a definite torque figure for that housings bolts. One BMW specialist said on 8mm bolts a MAX of 26ft/lbs. but in that it depends what type of gasket . One guy said he was told 16ft/lbs but it still leaked. I'm afraid you'll have to wing it with your own experience mate.

I'd likely snug them down and go a bit less than Tony's high number and you should be okay. Great write up by the way!! JIM
