It makes a circuit for the starter motor.

ok so now I'm stumped! the OBD doesn't seem to be working :arghh::arghh:.

However I spotted the attached cable has broken off the starter motor (should be attached at the red connector), what's it for? could this be the issue? Anyway I'll re-attach it and see but any light on what its for would be appreciated.

Cheers
Fixed cable to starter, still no start.

Can't get the OBD to work.

I've got this tapping sound, which I can't work out where its coming from, sounds like its coming possibly the alarm/immobiliser? (I have a video but can't upload it). Could the immobiliser be causing a non start? Plus when I disconnect the battery I get a quiet version of the alarm.

Had enough now........

You can't upload video on the forum Tom. You have to upload it to YouTube or similar then add a link to it.
Having repaired that wire connection does the engine turn over on the starter now?

Hi Tony

it’s always been turning over on the starter, ironically.
Will try and upload/post this evening.
going to see if I can borrow another OBD but the fact the one I’ve got has worked in the passed makes me think there’s something electrically wrong with the car, ie immobiliser.

I suspect you're right, in that it is the immobiliser has got out of sync.

Right so, the list.

Car turns over (new battery, fuses good, new fuel filter and fuel in the tank)
Battery tested 2 fuel pumps both work - you can hear the motor wizzing.
swapped relays still no start
fuel at fuel rail - haven't tested pressure
no power at pump connection but power to fuel gauge - hence relay swap.
Tried 2 different OBD's nether are powering up so can't to run diagnostic's.

Extra info - I replaced the engine recently, drove the car for MOT which it failed on a headlight  drove the car home which cut out once back in the garage and can't get it to start since.

HELP! Could this be the immobiliser - would it turn over if it was?
Really losing the will.......

Right, update.
found these chewed wires on the passengers side behind the glove box. might explain the clicking around the fuse box area.

Now I hate electrics! Before people say I need to look at wiring diagrams etc. Can someone tell me is this a cluster of cables that could be unplugged and replaced as a whole?

The prospect of splicing wires upside down in a foot well doesn’t appeal!

Cheers
