Ok. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong in my life these past 4 months and I’ve had enough! I’ve decided to treat myself to a new stereo system for my z3. My bass has been broken for ages. Please, has anyone got any recommendations? Also, is it a big job to fix it? I can’t do without my car but I need a good blast of some AC/DC to cheer me up and a good drive out somewhere right now!! 🤣 Thanks everyone! x

One option is to go to Halfords and chat to the team, they can advise and fit for you at minimal cost to the purchase price. Oh, great choice of music :scorecard:

+1 for your music and also for a drive out. Good shout from Andy about Halfords especially if you're not a DIY person;).

Yes as if you have the factory fit radio you will need an adapter connector to get from the BMW wiring connector to any aftermarket radio.
Aftermarket DIN size stereos/ cd/ usb players are very cheap these days. Just pick one you like the look of and does what you want it to do; EG: bluetooth for phone connectivity, etc. Some come with apple carplay and android auto built in.

PS I can't agree with the music choice but each to their own!! ;)

Helen … are you looking for a CD option or just something your phone connects to? 100% I would with this it’s on Amazon for £147. Nice retro look and you can hook to your phone as well. I have put that in the Z3 I gave to my daughter and it’s gr8 (see Rust to Roadster - which is hardly a fair title since that one has done under 50,000 miles and is a garage price - yes it’s a boy car).

Watching this thread for the recommendation of a CARPLAY model single DIN radio without modding wood trim?
Thought I'd ask some LLM this question

"You are a BMW Z series expert and enthusiast. If I wanted to replace the stock radio on a 1999 BMW z3 2.8 roadster with a single din apple carplay compatible radio without modifying the wood trim piece. And it has to be DIY friendly with compatible wiring hardnesses for easy plug and play. What radio would that be?"

....and it came back with this
Power Acoustik CP-71W single-DIN CarPlay head unit

These are pretty much the ‘go to’ replacement for a Zed.
