Couple of things I would to ask here without creating a new thread are these, do all early z3's have a place to attach roll hoops?, I will want to fit some straight away if possible, also I would like to change the front lights and fit some angel eye lights, either with a chrome or black backing, has anyone got some pics of ones they have replaced?

Roll hoops often come available, ask @spurs fan in a coupe on this forum, he recently sold a set and I beleive he has another project to strip anytime soon. The outer mounting points are on every car but you need to fit the inner ones, also different trim pieces.

Here's a picture of my car with after market all chrome headlights which came from California via eBay .

Cheers Tony

Yes I have some on my next breaking project, although postage to the states would be astronomical!

Very nice Tony!, still not sure what I prefer though!!, you mentioned "The outer mounting points are on every car but you need to fit the inner ones, also different trim pieces",
Is it a straight forward job fitting the inner mounting points?, I,ve seen on ebay roll hoops that appear to be one unit rather than two separate hoops, does this do away with having the inner mounting point?.

Yes but with those you lose the use of your storage box. Tony has that style on his car and can likely put up a pic or two. I have the originals and was fortunate to get the small upholstered trim pieces with my bars but not the fittings for inside the box. I also bought a small lid on eBay UK and am waiting for the inner fittings from a forum member. I've just bought a second set of hoops for the second car I've purchased but still need all the inner fittings but it's a start. JIM

The "inner fittings" are bolted down to the chassis below/behind the plastic trims. The type I have as you correctly point out only mount to the outer hoop mountings. These type are really called "style" bars and attract some disparaging comments but I would maintain that they would offer more protection than nothing at all as the main roll over protection is supplied by the windscreen surround.

Hope this is of some use to you.

Tony is right about protection and even BMW do not advertise their bars as roll over protection. But as T- says the windshield takes the brunt of the collision in a roll over and anything behind no matter what style will supplement this, hoops, seats with headrests built into the seat frame. Hopefully no one will test out these theories. JIM
