Good morning to you all.

introducing myself here.

my names Craig, I’m 42, misses and a couple of (mostly) lovely children!

My journey to this forum started months back (maybe even years back) as I always wanted a 911 but as I have got closer to the point of actually purchasing one I started to look at what I actually needed / wanted.
I have looked at most things, lotus, Porsche and Mazdas etc but the Zeds seem to have it, then I found this super helpful forum and I think the deal is done!
I’m not too fussed on ether a 3 or 4 (I can see advantages to both) but I think 2.8 or 3.0 are the only too options for me.
Preferably a manual as I now have an electric car for day to day.
I can see loads of advice on here and eBay / auto trader available cars.
I have an Audi S3 and sportline transporter to sell but I can bite the bullet without selling thoughts first of the right car is available.
Any ideas or suggestions and personal opinions between autos / manuals 2.8s to 3.0s and 4s or 3s.
Loads I know but any messages would be greatly appreciated and once done I would love to be an active member of the community.

thanks all

Hi Craig, welcome from me near Lincoln, if you’re open minded regards which type of Z to have you could do much worse than this one.

Thank all for the welcomes.

I live in Exeter, Devon.

I did (and still am) looking at the Z4 you reference above. We are at a family wedding in Greece at the moment so the build thread is proving to be awesome reading (as is much of this forum to be fair).
I have also been looking at this,

Certainly both front runnings but very different machines I appreciate.

ideally it’s a manual for me BUT my S3 is a paddle shift and it’s fantastic to be fair, would I have a similar experience with the Z4 auto box would anyone know?
Thanks again for any advice in advance

My old Z4 has the Steptronic gear box with which you can use “manual” mode. Also Sport mode too.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the reply.

The car looks fantastic but after thinking more and more about it I don’t think a auto is for me.

Pretty sure it’s a late Z3 2.8 or a late Z4 3.0SI manual for me.

I’m 6,1” or maybe a tiny bit more so there maybe an issue fitting into the Z3 but I guess I won’t know till I try one.

Cheers

That’s the best thing to do really, get out there and try some. Hope you find the one.

Thanks Tony.
I see Z fest is pretty soon, it’s really far away but I suspect is worth the trip considering how much information and opportunity’s to view cars that will be available for me.

I’ll talk with the misses about it and see if I can blag a trip up 👍

Might be worth on “overnighter”, there are several hotels nearby.
