Help please

I have just attempted to fit an aftermarket remote control locking system fro United Auto Security (BMWRSZ2-RH)

The kit is very simple and connect to the middle plug of the ZKE behind the glove box. There are only 4 connections that I require and two of those are earth and power for the brain.

Now the white wire from the brain (according to the instructions) goes to pin 4 of the central ZKE plug, on mine this is pink, even though the instructions say yellow, then the black/white lock cable from the brain is supposed to connect to pin 17 of the pink plug.

Operated it for the first time and the doors everything locked and the doors are deadlocked (you can't open them using the inside handle) the locked LED with the kit flashing as it should.

But tried to unlock and although I can hear the relay operating in the brain nothing unlocks (first time I did it I locked myself in the car and had to be rescued by my wife!!!)

Have checked all outputs and they seem fine. So I think that pin 17 is the wrong one (lets not forget this is an American system) I have also tried pin 14 with no luck.

So my question is does anybody know which is the unlock pin inside the pink central plug to the ZKE ??

any help would be really appreciated.

Sir P
I have a '96 1.9 L Z3. American. Is there anything I can check on my system that would help you? On the '96, I have no locking key fob. I must use the key to physically open the car. However, the wiring might tell you something. Frankie

Thanks Frankie, currently I am waiting for a missing corner key fob to arrive and if I can get that working I will use that. I don't think you can help me really, but many thanks for trying.

Has yours got central locking from turning the key in the door? If you do, I wonder if you might be interested in the UAS system I have (if I can make the missing corner fob work) It is brand new with two flip key fobs that have the right blade to be cut for ignition, plus instruction CD.

You can look it up on the web it is United Auto Security BMWRSZ2-RH

If the new fob works I will sell the UAS one. With import duty it cost me nearly £200....but willing to take an offer....it is a good system but beginning to think it is no good for a Brit spec car. It is postable.

Again many thanks for your kind offer of help.

Perce

Thanks for the offer but I'm not even sure if I have an alarm system in the car now. I just started driving it. Up to this point, I had put only 5-6 hundred miles on it in 4 years and that included driving it up from Maryland to Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. I might be interested in the rear tail lights as when I had to replace some bulbs, the holders looked rather shaky. What are you looking to get for them? Frankie

Hi sir p I have repared two broken wires in the boot loom all works as it should from passenger door lock but boot and drivers door only only work together must be another break or something else.
Geoff

I'm glad you have been able to fix the boot wires....terrible design that!

You now seem to have exactly what I did, with mine it was the passenger door actuator that had gone phut, I bought a genuine one and it all works fine now. Its not hard changing the actuator....but it is fiddly and time-consuming. It was quite satisfying when I got it working though.

Next problem. Bought an OEM missing corner key fob and followed the instructions on this forum written by jonco (very good by the way). Had an utter nightmare getting access to the control box, but got there in the end. Passenger footwell looks like a sequel to "Snakes on a plane" now.

Anyway pushed the switch over to learn pressed the lock button and it locked....after that nothing....then it unlocked once....then nothing again....did the learning thing again....nothing...kept pressing the red and grey buttons on the fob...then suddenly it locked again, then wouldn't unlock...tearing what's left of my hair out now.

Now my car has alarm sensors attached either side of the windscreen, and there seems to be a load of extra wires taped in to the looms that go to the ZKE brain....so I think it has definitely had some sort of after-market remote fitted before.

Do you think I should dismantle all the taped in wiring and try to get it back to basic spec and then try again? do you think it could be some sort of short? Central locking on the key (since I changed the passenger side actuator, still functions normally)

Also, if I can't fix it, and I am at a loss, does anyone know a good BMW independent in the Birmingham/Redditch/Solihull area I could take it to?

When I have the new body fitted it HAS to have remote central locking. This is so frustrating as the car runs like a dream.

Any help/thoughts gratefully received.

Sir P

Personally I would get rid of all those wires and go back to the basics then if the add on unit is functional at all reinstall it if needed. A multi meter is your best friend here but you need to know a few basic things to use it properly. @ smiffy is assisting @ Tracy Dee so you may be able to tap into his knowledge base for help with yours. I'm a bit far away to help unfortunetly ! Good luck, JIM

Hurray, it is now fixed and I have remote central locking

Took it to Jo Darby @ 6 Portway Trading Estate, Alcester Road, Portway, B98 7JA, just outside Redditch (07771 752069). Jo has extensive experience of Z3's having worked for BMW for a long time before setting up as an independent.

Dropped it off and next day got the call it was all fixed. When I got there I chatted with Lee the guy that fixed it. Apparently some fuses had been changed in the central locking brain and it was not working properly, so they swopped it out and hey presto.

Not only that, they gave me (free) a second hand (but looks like new) missing corner remote, to go with the one I paid 75 quid for from BMW.

Total cost for the work plus the remote fob.....£120....couldn't believe it, I would heartily recommend this independent.

Great job, great price, great service.....its nice to know that I could not have fixed this myself... and that it is now sorted....with two fobs instead of one....fantastic
