The effect is as @Lee describes it. My understanding is the flap is closed a low throttle opening to keep the noise level low. Drive by noise limits have been applied for many years and the manufacturer has to show the car meets the limits at certain steady speeds. As the test does not require the throttle to be floored the Z3 would pass the test when new. Of course when exhaust systems are replaced or the valve fails the extra "sound" may be considered pleasing.Thank you everybody, a very warm welcome! intersting about the exhaust, does seem complicated just to make it abt noiser on full throttle. hope to hear about Southampton/ Hampshire meets.
