Hi again Tyler, you mentioned you in Cornwall a while ago, were you in the US airforce ...
No, I was just housesitting for a friend who owns a place in Pitchcombe, near Stroud, but was able to visit Cornwall during my stay in the UK. I drove to Land's End and Port Isaac and a few other places. It was a very nice time.

Hi from Mansfield UK. We have a fair few members from the other side of the pond...you are not alone :)
Great, but I never felt alone among Brits. Before I left for England for the first time, several Brits warned me that I'd find the people less friendly, but I found just the opposite. Everyone was friendly that I can recall except for the Border Protection guys at Heathrow who didn't let me re-enter after my first six-month visit :( I'll visit again, eventually. There's so much more of the UK I want to see.

By and large we have the same feelings towards your country Tyler. The Border force here and in the US are only doing a job. We want to se more of your country too hence the Route 66 trip.

I'm not a fan of borders in general, but I guess they're a fact to be reckoned with. While you're in the American Southwest, it's possible you'll come across an immigration checkpoint anywhere within 100 miles of the border. They'll ask whether you're a US citizen. If you say no, they'll ask dumb questions. I don't think you're required to carry a passport, but that might be the fastest way to get through. I'm personally opposed to such things being anywhere in the interior of my country, so I won't answer the question, which can delay my travel for 15-20 minutes. It's worth it to me.

Have you been through Arizona before? A side trip to Sedona might be enjoyable, especially if you have a convertible. The red rock formations against the trees are quite a sight. I always like to recommend the author, Edward Abbey, to anyone visiting that region, especially if they're interested in wide open spaces and wilderness areas. Desert Solitaire is his best in my opinion.

Hello from Dallas/Fort Worth. I guess not all members are from the UK. :)
Hi Doug. I thought I already replied but I don't see it here. I'm living in north Fort Worth, near Keller.

Cool that we're representing DFW "Zee-ers," but I've got to admit, Zedsters sounds a lot cooler.

Hi again Tyler, you mentioned you in Cornwall a while ago, were you in the US airforce ? we had a US Squadron at RAF St Mawgan which is only about 15 miles from where I live. Some of the American guys lived in our village and used our local pub. The US pulled out about 15yrs ago now and RAF St Mawgan changed to a civilian airport which is now Newquay Airport.
I spent 2 years at RAF St Mawgan in the early 1980s with two Nimrod squadrons, living at St Column Minor. The US had an adjacent "814" facility (store for "buckets of sunshine"); all long gone now, except a small RAF detachment I believe.

Sorry for the ticket. Believe it or not, I haven't gotten a speeding ticket in the USA for a quarter century, but I got two in two weeks while in Spain last summer. They mailed the tickets to my Texas residence which included photos of my rental car. One ticket was around 200 bucks for about 8 MPH over the limit! Next time I'm in Europe, I'lll use Waze and look out for cameras.

I came back to ZRoadster after a hiatus and found some old posts. I hope you enjoyed your trip down Route 66. I have a friend from Costa Rica that wants to come up and drive it too. He asked me whether it's worth the effort and I couldn't really tell him because I've never made the trip. I've crossed on big roads, but only small sections on the two-lane roads.
