Hi everyone! I'm Gabe. I'm temporally living in the US and a few months ago I decided to buy a Z3 I fell in love with. It was my dream car when I was a kid, but where I used to live they're impossible to buy (they range between 20 to 40k U$S, no kidding).
I got an early 2000 2.8 manual with around 150k miles, I'll say in good shape for the price I paid, it has a lot of cosmetic details but nothing major, no rust at all, and just needed some mechanical/electrical work done.
Particularly what I've done (besides some other things that I took it to a shop):
- Repaired the OBD display by cleaning the rubber contacts between the board and the lcd screen
- Replaced the plastic guides in the windows
- Replaced the door handles seals
- Replaced the seats bushings
- Replaced all the HK speakers and amplifier, kept the head unit because I want it to look stock and installed a bluetooth module that connects to the CD changer port
- Repaired the CD eject mechanism, something just slipped out of place
- Found a problematic fuse that was causing the central locking to work whenever it wanted
- Changed some dashboard bulbs
- Polished the headlights
- Spent hours with the claybar, polish and wax
Right now I'm trying to troubleshoot an over-reactive DSC. The car has been sitting almost all winter, and started driving it again for a few days now. I've noticed that during sharp turns to the right the DSC would kick in with no real reason, as I wasn't pushing hard nor the car was anywhere close to loose traction, however it doesn't do the same while turning left. I'm assuming it may be a bad jaw sensor, but I've started by cleaning the rear ABS sensors that had a lot of buildup and ran out of time on the weekend to do the front ones, so it will have to wait until next weekend. In the meantime, ordered a NT510 reader to properly scan it.
Here is picture of it, would love to hear your comments!
