I am looking to change/improve the bulbs on my 2.2 production date 2001-01-30
any suggestions out of the variety of options now available, and good supplier

Also hand book says Main beam HB3 65w
Dip beam H7 55w
but on the front of the headlight it says HB4 and HB3 can anyone confirm which it is.

Is it like the e61 , easier to just pull headlight unit out.

Not looking to go down HiD's as I did on the e61

After market HID kits now MOT fail just so you know.

Hi,

Just looking to put better bulbs in, as it should not get much use in the dark.

Yes I know tHiD's are now banned unless the reflector system was kite marked for HiD , I was lucky with the e61 as it had self levelling and head light washers fitted.

I wonder why the LED's on our X1 does not require headlight washers?

I changed from a HID kit recently to LED bulbs and they are decent. Passed the MOT fine with them and they are a nice modern colour.

Are these just normal bulbs but LEC,what make dud you fit?
Are they just a replacement for the existing bulbs?
Perhaps @t-tony could comment if these are legal, seeing your comment ref MoT.b
I really do like the LEC lights on the X1.

Did you end up with a good beam pattern Dave, usually this where LED headlight bulbs fall short. Please could you post a link to them?

Tony.

I took my led bulbs out as I found the distant light throw wasn't as good .
I decided that the problem is even though led bulbs have the led on either side same place as the original bulb filament would be that in my view is part of the problem.
The bulb produces omnidirectional light from a central point whereas the led produces light from either side ( from the same height) but from a point further out and is not of uniform luminance over it's entire viewing angle so I found that even though they looked bright to look at out in the dark countryside roads here they were not as good at projecting a concentrated beam over a distance as good as the osram nightbreaker plus that I now have fitted .

Not entirely sure on the beam pattern but they seem OK and I never get flashed by oncoming traffic.

These are the ones I have and HB3 for the high beam.

So am I correct you have HB3 & HB4 , my lights have this on but handbook different says H7?

Mine has HB3 and HB4 and it says this on the headlights but I'm not sure what it says in my manual, I'll have a look today. Mine is facelift model also.

Edit - manual also says they are fitted with HB3 high beam and H7 low beam :banghead:
