Wow , I love it :)
Thank you for posting the photo :)

and I thought I was ugly =))

I sold my Scimitar and bought a Maxi in 1982 when my son was born. Needed room for a pram with huge wheels; never really understood why.:(

Quite an underrated car was the Maxi. Not a great looker and the early ones with cable gearchange and crappy driveshafts were a nightmare and earned it its awful reputation. However, over the years they slowly sorted it out. My brother-in-law's dad had a late model 1750HLS. Comfortable, quiet, reasonably quick for the day and the roomiest car you could ever imagine.

I had a new 1975 Maxi HL (twin SU carbs) in Tundra I think it was called, a wonderful versatile car. With its huge rear hatch and the drop down back seats it would take on all sorts of big furniture moving jobs and easily swallowed a pram body & chassis. It was quite nippy at the time if driven with a bit of enthusiasm. My Dad was Foreman In the BL garage where I purchased the car so he kept the SU carbs tuned up for me.

AND, as no one has mentioned this, the Maxi was one of the first (if not the first) to fold down the seats making a complete flat sleeping area. BL were so often so very nearly close to being market leaders with some of their ideas.

Tony.

Like some have said, the Maxi was a good versatile design, which set a trend for 5 door family hatchbacks. As so many British cars of the time it was put into production before faults were ironed out and the build quality was poor.:(

Got two down the farm including an extremely early example. :) Saw a Mk1 Vauxhall Cavalier on the road a few days ago.

I had a Maxi as well, it was a great concept that was unfortunate to be be made by BL. It was a trend setter in many ways, five seat, hatch back, fold flat seats, transverse engine in a family size car. If it had been built by BMW or Audi we would be haling it as a true classic car.

What is it doing running Rostyle wheels:eek::eek::eek:

Tony.
Mine had the normal pressed steel wheels with chrome hubcaps with a black ring about 1” in from outside edge. HL upgrade!!
