....fit a DAB radio/system fitted to their Z3 ?

Thanks in advance :)

I wouldn't let them fit a GB sticker...

Had an emergency last year just as we set of on a euro trip with the cigarette lighter packing up. Took it there as was on the way and i ended up doing it myself as they could not work out which fuse it was. So i checked on my phone and found the right one via Z4 Forum. They are next to useless might even be below that

They have tried 3 times to find the leak in the air-con system on my Volvo.

Edit : :p
now fixed

Well that went off topic pretty quick LOL :wacky:

Lets rephrase, will a DAB radio easily fit ? what with digital aerial and all that

By the way, had an Halford's lad fit an FM jobbie before, remember it going smooth.

The radio itself should be a standard fit - it's the antenna that they're likely to have problems with. It's not that it's hard, it's how much you want the cable hidden from view.

You will need to check the amp BMW use, I believe it is separate from the head unit. Also if you want better sound quality upgrade the speakers, I would take it to a specialist car audio firm.

You will also need a harness adapter. The BMW harness is different to most aftermarket headunits. I know this as I replaced the stock HU with a Clarion unit two years ago.

I believe Halfords supply the housing in their fitting charge ?

Might just get an FM system, just wondered if anyone had a DAB fitted and was the Arial a problem ?

The bog standard original is ugly and the CD is skipping at the very slightest bump.
Annoying with roof down and Motorhead - No sleep 'til Hammersmith blaring away.

I just had a double din Kenwood fitted by then yesterday in our CRV.
They will price match an online price (just show them in your phone) so for £30 fitment it was a no brainier really to get a warranty and fitment.

Only bit I didn't want to do myself was route the DAB Ariel wires under the dash buts it's a pretty simple job yo do yourself if you have patience for taking bits of interior apart.

In March had a Alpine DAB fitted into a 55 plated Cooper S ,it incorporated the hands free phone as well ,worked from the controls on the Mini steering wheel, the functions on the iPhone 6 now work via the radio. No CD but who ever uses one these days, freed up space where the 6 player had been.

The aerial was stuck onto the screen and a real neat job.(phone focussed on tree instead of screen) Done by a specialist in Stockport cost £325 all in.

Why go to the likes of Halfords.

Halfords stores vary greatly in quality, some of the staff would be hard pushed to boil water, however I was pleasantly surprised on my last visit to Halfords in derby, the lad that served me actually listened to what I had to say, came out to my car and took out my old stereo,he found that I already had the adapter lead, but then, the new stereo I wanted was not in stock, so he knocked some money off a slightly more expensive one, found out he had an mx5 he and his dad were sorting for when he passed his test, shame that Halfords don't have more staff like him.

Agree Madlee, diamonds can appear in dire places. Don't knock it.
I will be Halford's in the morning, it's only 2 mins away.

Halfords were really helpful when I couldn't get a head unit to turn on in the 1 series.

The chap came out, spliced some wires and hey presto sorted. He said it was the most interesting part of his job, and the best bit? He didn't charge me a penny.

There are some people who genuinely care and want to do a good job. Unfortunately for every one of those, there are 10 who just do it for the money and couldn't care less

I've got a DAB fitted to the ///M with the arial in the windscreen, cant seem to get any DAB stations :( something I need to sort. Mind you we only recently got mobile phone signal and broadband in the Forest of Dean so maybe I'm aiming too high. =))

May be your location ,we live in North Wales on delivery of our X1 dealer said forget DAB in our area,( Welsh Labour in Cardiff have no interest in us up hear ) but we find it works great in Manchester area.
Regarding broadband parts of principality are still using pigeons.
Personally still happy with the old system, showing my age.

I fitted a Kenwood digital from Halfords with their harness adaptor and the windsreen ariel. All a very simple DIY job with the wiring hidden. :)

Took my sons car to halfords for some advice on fitting the stereo.
A whip of a lad eventually comes and has a look...
His diagnosis was as follows...
Well mate, I dunno really, when I done my system on that ( pointing lovely at his much loved Honda Civic barley clearing the Tarmac, but I'm sure a cigarette paper would just fit under the front splitter) I couldn't find a permanent live so I just wrapped the wire around the base of the cigarette lighter a few times, it's all good for me, try that!
Bless him, he had to dash, his mum was phoning him and he had to be home for Teletubbies :banghead:
