My car flagged up i had a puncture, it's on run flats so didn't initially feel anything. Went to my regular tyre services on route home from work. He had a look and said, "You may want a new one Dave" . No s*** Ken! 😳.
Apparently very common on run flats to shed sections clean off which is exactly what had happened 😭 . So a new run flat or scrap the lot (almost new Goodyears) and put a new set of normal tyres on and improve the ride and reduce the risk of this happening again. Option B it is then. Happy sodding Xmas!

Just cause you can run a run-flat flat, doesn't mean you should run a run-flat when your run-flat's flat.

Is the idea of a having run-flats that you can run your run-flat flat to get where you need to get your run-flat repaired by the run-flat man? Or in my case my run-flats replaced by the run-flat man for non run-flats?

Full sympathy - not quite the same thing but an unexpected expense before Christmas - boiler service today - discovered a cracked (plastic) flue manifold assembly ....that will be £390 please. Apparently a weak spot on Worcester oil fired boilers...Now they tell me !!😩👎😭.

We must've been lucky then Brendan.

Tony.

That's a bit of a bummer Dave. Hope you can get a set of new boots on by Sunday;)

I had a run-flat go flat on my F11 just south of Luton heading back to Derbyshire at about 4:30 one afternoon. Cut to me careering around Bedfordshire on three good tyres trying to find a tyre place open and with stock. An hour later I admitted defeat and limped home at 50mph.

Despite the recommendation being not to do more than 50 miles on it, it managed the 120 miles absolutely fine. Frequent stops to check it was still holding together alright, and taking it very steady on the twisties after I got off the M1.

After that I ditched the run-flats and now I keep a spare, jack and sealant goo in the boot instead! 👍

Shedding bits of tyre is a result of driving on it after it went flat.

But you know where you are with the good ol normal tyres - always flat at the bottom.
That may well be the case, but if you ain't aware they are flat until this happens what's the bloody point? Ridiculous invention which allows you to potentially loose the tyre completely by throwing chunks off down to the wires!
Couldn't agree more, normal tyres, normal issues! 👍🏼

Sounds like you have more worries Dave, the TPMS light SHOULD have told you that the tyre was very low on pressure before it started destroying itself. That's how the system works, and why the TPMS warning light is part of the MOT test. It's not a ridiculous invention really , if it is used how it's meant to be used. If that light has been on and you have ignored it then that's not the systems fault. If it doesn't come on when you turn the ignition on then, again, not the systems fault.

Tony.

ps. The light worked as it should on my E85 and does on my E89.
